plz vist the link below and sign the petition so we don't have to put up with edited versions of all the upcoming new releases
like Fallout3 ( just being edited and soon to be released in AUS , if it's not out all ready) and the upcoming GAME OF THE YEAR GTA IV and many other that will no dought be watered down forcing us to buy overseas or pirate. (and no i don't condone piracy).

Well where's the link? Not that it matters, petitions aren't going to solve anything.

Whoops here it is

http://www.petitiononline.com/Rating18/petition-sign.html

hey the more gamers that sign it the more the polititions are likly to take notice. or we could start a joint law suit against the one person stopping Australia from getting it, "S.A. Attorney-General Michael Atkinson" and then maybe they will take us seriously. and learn that every other developed country in the world has an equivilant rating system to R18+ yet we are still in the stoneage ( stuck in the 20th century).

Did the modifications to GTA4 make any difference to people whether they would buy it locally or from Overseas?

I was going to buy gta4 overseas but BigW had it on the cheap and the modifications weren't game killers.

Still I am all for 18+ and buying from overseas (wanted to play gta4 on release and playasia had a bit of a wait for people who ordered late).

The only way to help this cause is to write to your something-or-other-in-government. Until enough -- well spoken -- people stand up and say we "this is ridiculous and needs to change" it won't happen.

The kind of people who make these rules don't play games and don't understand why anyone would. Some non-plebs out there get the whole "censorship is bad" thing, but few of those will care enough to do anything about it.

Case in point:
http://www.abc.net.au/tv/qanda/txt/s2318124.htm
On a completely different topic, an in-studio audience query concerning the ban of new and controversial video game, Fallout 3, sparked debate about the future of video game ratings and their censorship. Recently gamers in the Q&A audience have been using the website to raise the issue of an R-rating (18+) being introduced for certain games. The panellists agreed that violent games had dangerous psychological implications for their users but were divided as to whether there should be an outright ban or a ratings system. Gamers and game opponents subsequently used the Q&A website and SMS number to start a fierce debate on the issue that was still continuing a week later.

Petitions must work! QLD now has daylight savings after the overwhelming "yes" votes on the online petition.

.. oh wait

instead of this petition, maybe we should have an internet petition for the policy makers and politicians to take internet petitions seriously.

once we have achieved that then we can continue with the OP's internet petition for an R18 rating for games knowing it isn't just a massive waste of time.
