^ "Everything" from overseas *wink*
I got my brother's Wii chipped through ozmodchips. I think they have people who do the installation in all the major cities. http://www.ozmodchips.com/ Also, the wii eventually died thanks to the WiiConnect24 overheating problem, we unchipped, sent back for warranty then rechipped the replacement with the installer dude directly (without going through ozmodchips the second time). Also is there any potential problems in the future when playing new games etc No idea, we haven't played the console in months. It's sitting on the shelf gathering dust as it's such a POS boring console that we only bring out when people are over. last edited by parabol at 22:24:54 04/Sep/08 |

From what I understand, no Wii modchip is completely safe from updates Nintendo may release in the future. From what I remember, its been stated that Nintendo could theoretically patch out the functionality of most modchips, but I don't recall much more than that. I would have thought that if they knew how to, they would have done it already.
You've also got to be careful playing games from other regions. If your Wii isn't up to date, and you boot a new release from a different region, it will update your system (with a foreign firmware) and brick your system. Just a couple things to keep in mind. |

to be honest, as a wii owner its not even worth it to chip your wii so you can play burnt games. The lack of even mediocre games on the console is shocking.

Not sure if its any good, but theres a place in the city on Elizabeth st, near the corner of Franklin st that advertises Wii modding, might be worth checking out if its near you.

Thansk guys for all you replies.
It does make me wonder if it is really worth it. I don't want the risk of the wii dying having to buy a replacement. There seems to be too many risks around with the updates. Not decided 100 % yet what to do. Stevo |

Yeah it would suck to fork out X amount for a mod chip, only to have nintendo go ahead and patch it out with an update the very next day. They are doing that for the Freeloaders you can buy I heard so yeah. Sony are on the ball for once as thats 1 thing the PS3 has that no console has had for a hell of a long time, total region free-ness. Australian PS3s can play japanese games straight away. Good work sony. But I digress

Just FYI, there may soon be a homebrew app that can boot *ahem* 'backup' Wii games without a modchip.
