I like pies but aren't those the ones from 7-11? I only like pies with real meat in them/steak or chicken. There's probably a very good reason they're giving them away for free (and it's not just a marketing ploy...).

On the topic of pies, I haven't had a Yatala pie in a while (maybe 5 or so years) - are they still any good?

Yatala pie is over rated. Best pie is Lamb and Rosemary Pie from King of Cakes bakery at gailey 5-ways in st.lucia/taringa. Except the d*******s sell out of everything by like 12:30 every day and never increase production the knobs. So annoying! Their other pies and sausage rolls are really good too, but L & R the best.

dud, 7/11 don't make pies. they buy them. you sir, are a jerk

it isn't that they make them, it is that they stay in their little box there for 6months before someone comes in drunk and hungry enough to think a 7/11 pie is worth the risk.

I like just your normal Bakery pie the best these days. Sure there's a few Bakeries that do a better job then the others, but locals are the go.

If you are looking for a quality pie look no further than The Pie Shop at Stone's Corner. In addition to your standard variety they have all sorts of fancy combinations. Haven't been there in a while but when I lived at Greenslopes I used to be a frequent pie guy. Unless they have changed ownership in the last couple of years they are likely to be your one-stop pie shop.

Also Muzza's pie shop in Coorparoo make a good pie. I think they are owned by a NZ pie person as they seem to have NZ staff and NZ confectionery etc. Good range also.

heh, muzza's. "buy our pies or we'll both starve"
also, bRED bakeries make wicked pies. big chunks of steak and good cheese, the pastry on the bottom and sides is nice and thick and crisp and never falls apart.

PI! look at the source. (sauce, tee hee.)

Myself and dirtyape were on a small road trip to Byron bay im not sure what the town was called but its about 20 km this side of Byron (so i could have a pedal of his Mazda Mpv turbo) and we dropped in to a shop called "Humble pie" it had a vast selection and the best dam pie i have ever had, now i am a fussy c*** when i comes to pies if i hit gristle i will throw up, i liked them so much i bought 3 different sorts frozen for home ( chicken curry , pepper steak , Steal bacon and Cheese) So do yourself a favor if you are down that way.

No way, cut the top off, stir in an epic amount of tomato sauce into the meat, put the top back on, more sauce, enjoy.

Good timing with the pie thread.

I was out and about for work last week and stopped at Yatala for some pie goodness (first timer).

They weren't bad but weren't anything memorable. I ate two and washed them done with orange and mago juice.

I felt sick until the next morning, so actually it was pretty memorable.
