So i'm building a new PC for a mate. Mid range gaming.
Want to keep it under 2 grand if possible.
I'd like your thoughts and Ideas.

Need to stick with the Intel/Asus/NVidia combination.

What model processor, vid card and motherboard would you choose?

Best bang for buck when it comes to RAM?

Hard to believe it's been three years since i was a systems builder.

The difference in price between cheap no-name ram and brand-name isn't that big these days.

In my experience (I've had heaps of system instability over the years), the RAM with the least issues on ASUS mobos has been from G.Skill. In fact, a recent 4GB kit I got for $105 (F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ) was on my ASUS P5B-Deluxe's compatibility list and is working brilliantly.

Basically if you're paying more than $120 for 4GB, you're doing it wrong.

That Wiki looks to be a bit out of date, as it has a 512MB GeForce 8800GTS listed as being $275. I just got a 512MB 8800GT for $175 last week.

Yeah i know fireblood, i feel lame.

thanks for that parabol. 4gig seems to be the proper amount to get these days.

now i'm mainly looking at info on CPU/Motherboard combo, everything else i'm pretty right on. Was it the Asus P5K series that i heard a few of you bleat about before?
