Hey guys again.. i've got my new PC up and running.
Now i'm looking for a new monitor because this 20ms dell screen tears in every FPS. I hear now that CRT's are pretty much obsolete? I always preferred CRT because of the screen tear problem. (It never looks the same on a LCD). I'm assuming now that 2ms LCD's are no different to CRT's when it comes to gaming and moving the screen quickly. This model seems around my price range, $250ish. LG L1954TQ-PF LCD Monitor 19", 2ms Help appreciated <3 |

Pick yourself up a 22" Asus, can be had for cheap and is a solid monitor.
So wouldn't bother going smaller, such a waste. |

Samsung seems to have a pretty decent dead pixel return policy, something like this might be up your alley?

Don't go anything smaller than 22". Personally I would go for something between 26-30 but definitely 22" or higher.

Most the LCD's i see are widescreen... as i want it for gaming i wanted to stay away from them.
Also are LCD monitors running at 100hertz these days? If not i may get a junk CRT. |

wtf, widescreen is wicked for gaming :/I hate it for FPS, I hate big screens/high res in general for FPS. That's gameplay wise, it sure does look a hell lot better though. |

I suggest the BenQ G2400WD if it is possible to get a hold of it in Australia.
Based on the same panel as the new V2400W, but this one doesn't have the s***ty stand that isn't compatible with VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) mounting bracket. That is G2400WD, NOT G2400W. The G2400W has an older panel type, but is still a very good panel. |

If you want piece of mind in regards to dead pipels, some of LG's range has a 'Pixel Perfect' warranty.
Any pixel defects during the first 3 years is covered by warranty. The actual monitors are good too, 2ms is fine for gaming. Mind you it is probably one of the more expensive 22". http://au.lge.com/products/model/detail/itproducts_lcdmonitor_22inchwidescreen_l226wtpbf.jhtml# |

I have two Dell 22inch widescreens and each is a different model from the other. One is the superhigh qual 22 with built in webcam, stereo mics, and a few USB inputs, while the other is Dell's standard 22. In terms of just looking at the quality of the monitors, there's really not much difference between the quality. I tend to watch movies on the better monitor just because the blacks are blacker. I don't play games, but the good one apparently has a really low ms time (whatever that means). It was only an extra few bucks for the better one, which I thought the webcam alone made worth it.

Hmm after some research i found that LCD monitors still have the 'ghosting' effect in fast FPS games (such as quake 3).
Even 2ms doesnt mean it wont do it.. i think ill stick to CRT but the only place to find them these days are second hand. SO... does anyone have a 19" flatscreen CRT that isnt too worn out? ps. must be able to run 100 hertz in 800x600 last edited by JakeG at 08:48:11 11/Aug/08 |

im pretty sure yor superhuman eyes could still see the blur though mission (you know how lcds blur) It's actually pretty good and passable. My previous LCD wasn't so great in games though, it didn't worry me, but wasn't as fast as a CRT. Without going over old ground, LCD TV's are fine if you're in the upper end of the market. The 'cheaper' ones say <$2.5k can't compete with the Plasma's. |

i don't see ghosting on my 22" widescreen 2ms lcd while playing quake which moves heaps faster than that pos q3a ;] . thinking that an old 19"crt is gonna be better is massif lols. slow lcds might get a little motion blur but crts blur 24/7.

I've never seen ghosting on my Samsung 22". Most monitors advertised as 2ms response time are really 5ms for a full colour change. You'd be hard pressed to see any ghosting on an 8ms monitor, even if there was the tiniest fraction of ghosting and your eyes are so super sensitive that you saw it I doubt it'd cause the end of the world.
