Well red alert 3 gets one, so I figured wrath of the lich king beta should get its own thread too!

Anyone else got a key yet? I got a death knight on the pve server called Draxxia, and I'll be transferring my mage (Davidus) to the pvp server once they've polished up mage talents a bit in the beta and made it worth trying.

Hey Khel, can you post some screen shots of the death knight in action and maybe some other cool s*** you see up in Northrend.

Yay!

Wouldn't they all be covered by the usual NDA that most betas are protected by?

Nope, no NDA for the beta. Only for the Alpha (which is finished now of course)

If funcom can sell a beta, I don't see why blizzard wouldn't mind a few fan boys talking theirs up.

I dislike you Khel. Damn you for getting a key!

What'd you think of the DK starting quests? Is it as epic as some of the sites have made it out to be ?

Yeah, its very epic, waging war against the scarlet crusade in EPL. Instructor Rasuvious and Gothik the Harvester from Naxx are both in the starting zone too and help train you to be a Deathknight and give you quests to do and stuff, which the fanboy in me loved.

The other stuff about fighting from the backs of Frost Wyrms and commanding them to eat soliders sounds like it'd be seriously fun too.

LF beta key, pst!

Yeah, the frost wyrms are quite buggy still though, so that ruins the effect a little :P You gotta make your frostwyrm eat soldiers to get it's life and mana back so it can keep attacking, but the "Devour a soldier" ability on the frost wyrm is pretty broken and only seems to actually work maybe 1 out of every 5 times you use it. But then, thats why its a beta I guess, still pretty awesome when it does work, the frost wyrm picks up the enemy in its mouth and chews on it till it dies, you can even fly around and do other stuff while its still happily chewing on the guy, then once hes dead the frost wyrm spits the corpse back out.

But the big showdown at Light's Hope chapel and the cleansing of Ashbringer is the payoff that it all builds towards, and its very very epic and awesome. I forgot to actually take any screenshots of it, cos I was too rapt up in it :)

Is this instanced or something? Or a server event? Doesn't sound like something that can be done out in the open environment.

Its not instanced, but its in a special version of EPL. Its really awesome how they've done the DK starting zone, the 'zone' actually cosists of about 4 different versions of the same section of EPL (pretty much the bit with light's hope chapel, Tyr's hand, and some extra villages and stuff that have been handed in) Your home base is a big hovering citadel that is hovering over that part of EPL called Acherus (like Naxx, but bigger), and depending how far through the quest chain you are, when you port down out of the citadel down into EPL you'll go into different versions of EPL.

Like at the start, theres a scourge outpost down on the ground under the citadel, and they're preparing to launch an attack against New Avalon which is the Scarlet Crusade's last bastion in EPL, so you're doing quests to weaken the defenses of new avalon and harass them in preparation for the assault, as well as killing the peasents and stuff who are living in the village outside New Avalon. Then you port back up to the citadel to report to Darion Mograine (the son of the horseman in Naxx, who has inherited the corrupted Ashbringer), and when you port back down to the ground, you port down into a different version of the same zone, where the scourge have pushed forward and the village is now burning and they're attacking New Avalon itself.

You do a couple of quest chains, one which involves stabbing scarlet crusaders with torture swords until they give you information about the scarlet crusade's plans, and one where you find out theres reinforcements coming from Hearthglen and you arrange a trap for them. Then you go back to the citadel, and come back down into another version of the zone where the Hearthglen reinforcements have arrived, and thats when you fly the Frostwyrms in to wipe out the reinforcements and finish off New Avalon. Then you port back to the citadel, report to Mograine, and come back into yet ANOTHER version of the zone where the village is burning and New Avalon is burning and the scourge forces have moved through into the rest of EPL and are preparing an assault on Light's Hope chapel, so you go do that event then.

Its all done in a very cool, dynamic sort of way, and its very seamless. The Light's Hope battle is massive too, its the WoW version of the story of the 300, its 300 Argent Dawn defenders defending the chapel against 10,000 scourge, very epic :)

Then you start grinding 7623547236 different factions while lusting for purples that give you 1 extra hp ?

The only thing I need to know is if a Shadow Priest is still worth playing or should I reroll?

Angry penguins are angry.

Anyone's guess is as good as yours when it comes to how each class will pan out. Talk to whoever on here is in beta or check out world of raids/mmo-champion for stuff.

Judging from the talents, shadow priest will be an even more awesome class

I expect locks will get hit with the nerf bat in regards to Chaos Bolt, being as there is no way to avoid it at all really. Rogues too because all 3 of their trees are awesome as hell now

they already said they're nerfing locks damage and trying to make them more like hunters using their pet to buff the groups etc.
