Topic: What do you do with your spare change?
infi

I have recently become obsessed with using my spare change to pay bills so that I instead receive notes. e.g. If the bill $12.90 I will try to give $22.90 or $52.90 so I get back a note and lighten my change at the same time.

What do you do with your spare change?

Put it in the spare change bucket. Then out of that we pay pocket money and any gold coin donations for school

Change jar, its actually now overflowed into a small back next to the change jar. I think I should see if my local branch has a coin-counting machine and cash it in.

Put it in a (Large) Milo Tin.

When I went for my Euro Trip I cashed it in for spending money, was $2.35 short of 700 bucks :(

Also, Turns out if you take an assload of Coins into the bank they charge you to put in in your account. Wasn't a small amount either, $20 maybe (Might have been 10)

Dropped into a tin and then cashed in at Xmas tree.

Scooter - sounds like you need to change banks, mine have never charged for it and my biggest stash was around $500.

I keep gold coins in my wallet
Silver coins i keep in a tin, and every now and then i'll bag it up and give it to the bank and get real money (notes) in return

Let me know if you find a bank with a coin counting machine. Every one I tried for QGL always made me count all the coins and bag them myself, then they just weigh the bags.

All my change goes into a change tin, when it fills up I bag it all and take it in and get cash, which I then exchange for products and services.

I once banked my $102 of coins, my commonwealth branch had the big sorting machine. No charge too (didn't think there would be one anyway).

I dont have a coin pocket in my wallet, so I dont have to carry a wallet brick in my pocket like my old one, so at end of each day, i put my coins in a large CD spindle cover cup thing that i found. leave the notes in the wallet for the next day.

WTF!?

I had to put some cash into one of my friends bank accounts. So i took the cash (notes) into the local (wynnum - work) Commonwealth bank which he is a member of.
I also took my gf's piggy bank's coins in a plastic bag and got them to cash it for me.
I'm not even a mamber of the commonwealth! Neither is my gf!
Then again it was only like $100 bucks, but she just put it through this machine, and confirmed how much i thought it was.
No bank charges...nothing!

I used to chuck any coinage that waw weighing my wallet down into one of those massive money tins (the ones that had like a $100 note printed on the outside).. did this over a course of a year or so and cashed it in and I had over $1200 :) was awesome... most of that came from when I'd come home from big nights out I'd have heaps of $2 and $1 coins left over from buying drinks.

now I just spend the coins, like infi does by giving the change instead of breaking notes..

Virginia Commonwealth, self service coin counting machine. Run the coins through it gives you a receipt you go to the cashier with the receipt.
Stafford Commonwealth (last time I was there) counting machine behind the counter, they gladly ran through my $580 worth of change at 3.40 pm Christmas eve.

when there's enough of it i'll bag and bank the change

it's easier to just bag it anyway unless you truly have a metric dickload of change

Same as infi, always try and use whatever coins I have to get back either notes, or just less coins. Otherwise just chuck it in the pocket of my visor in the car just incase I ever need it.

Change jar, which turned into change bottle, then into change shoebox, then into change shoebox + change all over my computer desk. Last time I checked, it was over $500 just from the gold coins. Just too lazy to take it in to the bank.

What do you do with your spare change?
I just throw it on the floor. If it isn't worth putting on paper it isn't worth keeping....well if I was rich I would do that. I put all my change in a box. It is huge now and too heavy to move so now I just leave it there...and put more change on the top.

I chuck it in some random plastic container I have on my desk. Has accumulated about $70 or so in the past couple of weeks. I empty my wallet every arvo of change, I hate it makes my wallet too bulky and s***. And after big nights usually have at the very least $10 worth of coinage at the bottom of my jean pockets. Also put a heap of change in the ash trays of my cars for toll and s***. Had about $30 in my ash try at one stage, I dont' go through the toll a whole lot haha.

I go shopping and use the self-checkout. The machine will accept ANY coins - so I'm there dropping down those f***ing annoying US 1c coins for 10 minutes.

Best part is, if you over pay, the change you get back is "squashed" into higher value coin where applicable.

Using a coin sorter costs something like 5-10% of what you put in - gaydongs.

Always gets thrown in a change tin/money box/whatever - in Aus my local CBA had a coin counting thingo and it was free to use.

Over here coins go in empty cd spindles! then I have to count and bag, last time I took it to the bank had nearly 400 euro's.

Still use copper here too, but f***ed if I am counting them, the 400e was 2,1,50c,20c,10c coins only the 5,2,1 are all copper

Was a change jar, now just public transport. Change jars are great, save heaps really quickly if you chuck it in there at the end of everyday.

Used to buy a monthly ticket when I was working full time, now I just buy one three days a week.

Everyone aware of the ticket price increase in August? Only on non-go-card tickets.

I dont care what they do Im not getting one.

I hate change, nothing worse than waking up with a bad hangover, and $30 in change. (that I somehow fit into the small change pocket of my jeans)

I just take it to work and spend it on cigarettes and coffee usually.
