Sooooo i'm looking at getting a frequent flyers card, I'm going to be going on some trips (Qantas) and i'm wondering what people have for their frequent flyers card and what they can recommend?

Thanks!

Uh... a QANTAS frequent flyer card? Do you mean like, credit cards that give you miles when you buy something?

I think it's more along the lines of the more you fly, the more points you build up, which can then be used to redeem free flights in the future. Hence the name "frequent flyer"

Well, that's what you'd expect from the name.

The reality is different.

Most CC's these days give you a rewards scheme, some are specifically targetted at FF Points.

Just make sure you read up on the fine print on them pretty closely, specifically about the availability of the FF seats. Common practice to only allow one seat per flight to be allocated to someone paying with FF points.

Oh, then there's qantas, who run their own FF club point thing

Yeh I got a qantas frequent fly card and joined it up to my credit card. I clocked up over 100 000 points in 4 years and havn't used any of them yet. It seems its only good for cashing in on free flights. The frequent flyer shop is so bulls***. If you wanted to buy an lcd screen ya spend something like 10 000 points and that only gets ya like $200 off the price.

Its really f***ed. If ya spend big on ya CC and wanna save points to fly then do it.

That is joining a Frequent Flier programme, which is obviously airline specific. AFAIK you need to be in some sort of FF programme before you can redeem points from any credit or points bonus card.

So if you're going on a bunch of QANTAS flights, you want to apply for the QANTAS Frequent Flier programme (I think it's free? not sure, it's pretty painless anyway). When you book flights, just give 'em your number and you get credited the miles.

parents use amex and commbank for all their purchases through the business, its paid for a number of round trip australian business class trips and at least one canada business class trip i can think of

commbank gives you 'commpoints' which you can xfer to any rewards scheme
dunno anything about the amex one

edit; yeah dont buy s*** with the points, you get the most mileage out of the flights (pun uninentional)

Qantas don't charge per year.. it's $82 to sign and your a member for life. Qantas Club is a yearly membership fee.

Clearly if you're going to be flying Qantas then you join the Qantas frequent flyer program and if you want to get extra points then you get a credit card that is a partner of the Qantas frequent flyers, usually things like every $1 spent on the card is 1 point on the program.

qantas cost me about $50 to join about 5 years ago.

I earn points via my personal credit card, my company credit card and of course via lots of flights.

I paid for all the flights and some of the accommodation on my honeymoon with FF points, and I've recently ricked back over the 800,000 point mark and am thinking of taking the family to Italy or New York next year when I hit 1 million.

Definately worth it if yo fly alot, and you don't need to pay for Q Club because its free when you're a gold or platinum FF anyway.

Usually at least 1 interstate trip a week, mostly 2. Also in Townsville on a fortnightly basis.

Probably 6 internationals a year.

Add to that I rack up about $3k a month on my personal credit card and about $10,000 a month on the company credit card and it adds up pretty fast

Further to this, I was in Snap Printing one day picking up some urgent printing I had arranged and noticed they have a corporate partnership with Qantas FF. You can register your FF # with Snap and link it to your company spend. They split the points evenly among all the registered employees., so far I'm not sure if anyone else has registered, but I've picked up 5,000 points a month from this scam. Simply a point for every $ spent by my company at Snap printing anywhere in Australia.

Also, when you are a Platinum FF you get heaps of bonus points, earn points for hire cars interstate and for affiliated hotels and there is a minimum 1500 points per flight no matter where you go.

It's a rort and I get the best out of it. I even left my current job for 12 months, but continued to pick up the Snap printing points while I wa working elsehwere!

yeah sorry, I should have been more clear..I was referencing the credit card. I'm not really sure they are worth it now though as I probably don't use a credit card often enough to warrant it.

I might just sign up to the frequent flyers program though for Qantas.

Thanks though!
