*le sigh* ... I can't get on. Probably due to the new patch being hammered.

is this new patch just fixes or is it the update with pyro stuff?

Just a couple of boring fixes.

If it was the pyro update, you'd hear an announcement a week or two in advance. Then the release date would come and go with no update ... two weeks after that you'd finally see the release, and it'll have some critical flaw that'll need insta-patching :)

cl_updaterate 100
cl_cmdrate 100

I dropped mine back down to 50 each. I couldn't snipe at the higher rate for some reason, the bullets wouldn't connect with heads even though I was sniping the exact same way I did when the rates were lower (at 30/20-ish). Maybe I suck or maybe it has to do with the interpolation difference between high and low rates (with low being easier).

internode server 13 is an excellent server for low pings on iinet, I get 10-20. If you can try and play on that.
Use these console commands:

rate 9999999 (whatever is the highest), cl_updaterate 101, cl_cmdrate 101. Those commands should grant good speeds. If you are uploading the cl_cmdrate command should be lowered as that is your upload amount. If you max out your upstream bandwidth it'll trash your connection.
Use cl_showfps 2, that will put a display bottom right of your screen that gives you a bunch of info about your fps and connection, tis handy if you want to change your TF2 network setting to match your current overall bandwidth usage (very handy when shaped).

cl_forcepreload 1 will force everything in the map (I think) to preload so you don't get any slight pauses when an non-cached sound/model/whatever is used and loaded. It increases load times but reduces stuttering during the first few mins of play.

Tweak Guide for HL2 games has the above commands plus many, many more that you may want to gloss over to find stuff to give you a 'smooth' experience.

Enjoy.
