Just watching out of curiosity.

I'm no European political genius, but what's with the english commentators political hotheadedness and such?

Seriously he's taking the piss out of the entire show... It's rather funny. His sarcasm and satire is more interesting than the show. (ie; Sweden gives its top votes to iceleand denmark and poland and he says "well thats a HUGE suprise nobody would have expected sweden to give it's top points to iceland") Also, everytime Russia gets top points from a country he laughs mockingly

I'm interested, why did russia's crappy song win, and why do the SBS allow such a politically minded guy to comment on the show? It's like he's degrading the show as if to say "don't watch this, it's politically biased s***, go watch channel 10"...

Didn't watch it but saw the shorts on the news of the Russian performance. All I can say is the guy was rubbish sounding to me ~

Yeah basically a country can't vote for itself so the majority of the population will vote for the neighbouring country due to support they get from one another.. Russia being the largest in Europe has many countries on it's borders and Russia being very powerful and diplomatic have good relationships with them..

The commentator dude has been doing it for like, 30 years or something. I'd imagine he's pretty jaded about it now.

Although I think none of the Europe broadcasts hear him?

The Eurovision contest has become a joke in recent years.
The idiot comentator said crap about the scandanavians block voting and yes they have informally done it in the past years but it has become needed so to combat the blatant voting system put forth by the eatern countries.
They actually have ad campaigns designed to tell people who to vote for.
Still, walking past houses and units on Euro night is hilareous
