Anyone tried this? My uncle just forwarded it to me:
Windows Live™ SkyDrive™. Want to send large files, like vacation photos and home videos, without worrying about exceeding your friends' e-mail storage space? With SkyDrive, you get 5 GB of password-protected online storage. That means you can get to your files from wherever you're online, and so can the people you give permission to. You're always in control of who sees what. Get Windows Live SkyDrive-it's free! http://www.windowslive.com/skydrive/store_files.html edit: I just logged in to Live and I can see the option - looks pretty cool! Has a little web-based uploader thing. Looks pretty easy to share stuff as well, so this looks like a direct dive by MS to try and get people to share their mp3s and videos. Intermeresting! |

Yeah I use it occasionally to share documents with a friend.
Handy to throw things in there when I remember/can be bothered like music and guitar tabs, and is always available wherever I have web access. A friend and I edit guitar tabs and stick them back in there, so we know we're on the same page when we go to jam (although unfortunately takes away opportunities to argue and call her a bitch) Permissions are really easy to set up if you both use Hotmail or whatever. Very easy to set up and use. |

I've been using it a bit over the last few months. Its not bad, I've actually got a couple of users on my network using it for sharing large documents with external customers etc. Seems fairly straight forward to setup etc, just a pain setting up the windows live login.

in my view microsoft doesn't have a good history with products in the online space. there has been several instances where products and services have been dropped or phased out with little respect shown for users/customers, or they change free services to partial or fully pay services trapping users, or riddled products with advertising.
I would check out the competitors before jumping at this, you don't want to become reliant on it with their history. |

Yeah they keep deleting my hotmail account just cos I don't go to it often enough... what the f***, seriously.... shame if I used it, and just happened to be away from home for 30 days, they'd just delete all your emails!

Yeah it's total bulls***! Then again, they probably have a million users that no longer use their accounts, but 30 days?! Commoooonnnn, at least have a holiday optoin or soemthing....oh they probably do a PAY option where it can never be deleted! |

a certain australia isp will not recycle old email addresses for several years, if at all, as they are worried about the privacy implications. be interesting to see what would happen to hotmail in that type of situation, even if it was orchestrated.

i think the part where you check 'please dont display this again' when you see the pop up.. this connection is not sucure - 3rd parties can read what you send etc etc kinda dismisses the right to privacy

It'd be cool if there were a client that of mounts the Skydrive as if it's any other drive on your PC. Some other online storage sites let you do that.

The fun thing about skydrive is that its urls you give out are about 3 km long! Personal webspace ftw!
