I had myself a kangaroo burrito for dinner tonight and it rocked my socks right off. I got 3 kangaroo fillets from coles and marinated it in soy, worchtasheer (sp?) and a touch of teriyaki for about an hour, cooked iron the barbie till it was about medium rare and it was AA++ yum. Apparently its good for me and good for the environment ( that's what the sticker on it said ).

I remember back in the early 90's while living in Tennant Creek, crazymorton was cooking a pretty mean BBQ when my mother was up for a visit. We didn't tell anyone that we were serving Kangaroo and a few hours after dinner, Mum was up walking around the room looking a bit uncomfortable. We all asked what was wrong and she said "her legs were feeling a bit jumpy". We then had to tell her and the rest of the visiting rellies it was probably what she had eaten for dinner that had caused it. hahaha

apparently there's no fat in kangaroo meat and it's full of proteeiiiin. I once bought a few chops but someone saw it in the freezer and threw it out!

cheap kangaroo meat is definitely of a higher quality than similarly priced cuts of beef. and while i'm not particularly staunch about animals rights, i dislike factory farming methods so its a nice thought that the kangaroo didn't live its life in a stall and that it died relatively painlessly from being shot (as opposed to the pretty brutal ways factory farmed animals are)

there is less room for error when cooking it though, it can be pretty chewy if it too rare

I had deer for tea the other day, wasn't bad. Kinda tasted just like beef to be honest.

We have kangaroo weekly.
I bash it (with a meat mallet) then let it sit in a seasoned olive oil (garlic, herbs etc) for a hour or 2 before cooking, let it sit for a bit to drain the oil off. Then cook at a fairly high temp fast.
Overcooked roo sucks.

Also pretty rocking in sub continent style curries (and you can pretty much skip all the prep time).

But for "special" occasions I do it as a roast, with a couverture and blueberries gravy (stolen from an Iron Chef where they did some sort of game meat).

I have found any pretty much recipe for venison will work roo.

but to be fair it is expensive

dunno why but yeah

Kinda tasted just like beef to be honest

If by "kinda" you mean how Pepsi Max kinda tastes like Coke then yeah ok.
But if you think venison or roo really tastes like normal steak ... it was overcooked or in some other way destroyed. They definitely have a different texture and taste.

Yeah I tried the Skippy Steak a while ago. You gotta watch you dont burn the c*** cause' it doesnt have much fat in it and it cooks very quickly.

I like how you argue how video games aren't harmful obes, but then freely admit to bashing kangaroo meat

Had my first taste of Kangaroo when I used live in a place called Tom Price in WA. The indigenous community was showing us how they used to cook it as well as dream time stories, was a fantastic day. Also tasted Goanna and Blue Tongue ... both taste like Chicken although it gets some getting used to convincing your mind what it is.

Yeah, I knew that, but I honestly expected if I'd said 'venison' I'd get more people saying 'wtf is venison' than I would people correcting me on what it's called :)

Yeah, kangaroo is awesome, and its so cheap! And good for you!

Coles has a great range - the sausages are great - like NO fat comes out while you are cooking them. Also the premarinated mini roasts are lovely with traditional roast veges.

I knew someone promoting roo ... apparently it's got insane health benefits to it and tastes great ... but they're like horses to me, I just can't eat them.

Edit: Or dolphins ... but I could never EVER eat one of those.
