Vista Home Premium - go the 32bit or 64bit?
They're the same price. Applications that will be used are graphics ones: Photoshop, Draw, Illustrator, and Music ones: adobe audition, pro tools, vegas etc etc Also, can you run old versions of Office on 64bit? |

All of the above programs should work. 64bit Vista still runs 32bit software fine. The only thing that needs to be different is drivers, and I'll be surprised if you have any hardware which doesn't have 64bit drivers available.

If this is related to the another thread about building a new pc for design, than you would benfit from the extra memory you will be able to use, vista 32bit OS can only use and address a max of 3.25 gb of RAM. 64bit can +4gb of ram.
Friend of mine said he regrets building a 64bit system. from the sounds of it, he either has doggy hardware or a haxed version of vista and is unable to update to SP1, Just saying. It is related, but just going to stick to 2gig for now and add another 2gig down the track if needed.

I've been running 64bit Vista pretty much since it came out, and it hasn't caused me any issues.

Isnt Photoshop 64 bit native?
If I was running those applications and I had access to the 64bit versions of them, there would be no doubt that I would run 64bit Vista to power it. From the tests of done at work with XSI, Photoshop and other tools, it will REALLY increase your performance by an insane amount. |

Well seems like Vista 64 is the go and should future proof it a bit then. As long as it can run older apps

Honestly if you need to ask which is better, x86 is better.
If you are capable enough to find out for yourself the differences, pros and cons... then you are probably ok with either. Its only future proof if its the future. |

agree with obes, the concept of future proof is mostly a wank - there is only today.
I just went to 64bit, all my 32 bit apps run fine and havent really had any issues so far, in fact its been rather nice and I've got everything up and running and migrated to the new pc surprisingly easy. I went 4gb though - thats recommended for 64bit |
