Hey all,

A few things have happened lately where my dog (that's been living with mum) needs to find a new home since mum was unfortunately forced to move into a unit.

She's an old girl now at 13, half fox terrier half dachshund, and black with brown spots. Her name's Pooky (yes I was young when I named her haha), and she's used to being indoors and out. Even though she's old, we can't find it in us to have her put down as she's been with us from the start and is a great dog to have.

Thanks!

Yes you can, when I was a kid my dad had to give away our 12 year old dog, Floyd.

He found this nice old farmer who said he would take him to his farm and he would be happy. It was sad to see him go, but it still brings a smile to my face thinking how much happier Floyd was once he got to the farm.

That's not true. Floyd would write letters to me from the farm all the time. Then we moved houses and he must have lost my new address :(

the dog will spaz out if it's lived with the same people for 13 years, not to mention it will start costing a bit of money to keep her in sound shape.

Yeah it's kind of like leting a strangers granny move in with you. And I would also agree the dog ain't gunna be happy.

Have you tried the Chinese resturant down the road?

animals are for life

my mother in law is looking to get rid of her cat, because it has 'depression'...

if she would just give the thing some damn affection it would be fine

Sorry but man the f*** up... Everyone has had to put down their treasured pet at some stage... You're just condemning the poor animal to an ordinary existence wherever it ends up.

The truth sucks...

You're also not supposed to put an animal down just for kicks.. If he's trying to find it a home first, then that's great. Putting an animal down should be the last resort

Clearly you are great at thinking your options through. I applaud you.

Are we playing the sarcasm game?

OK, my turn, your option of giving away a 13 year old dog is a great option too

End of sarcasm

Just get her put down. Poor dog, thank f*** I'm not one of your children.

Whereas you don't think through your options at all? It may well appear tough dude but the dog isn't going to be 'happy' wherever you manage to put it..

A mega helping of doggie valium is most likely the only thing that won't turn the nice animal you enjoy throwing a treat to into a shivering, shaking, jittering mess that s***s everywhere and bites people..

Old dogs.. New Tricks.. They just don't learn them...

I don't know, you may be right.. however the place she's been staying for the last week temporarily seems to be making her happy. When we went to visit she has apparently been fantastic the whole time, lively and happy. I guess I'm just hoping that maybe someone out there can make her feel the same as where she's staying now (not a permanent option). It's worth a try before putting her down

It depends on the dog's personality. If it goes to a home where it is loved, fed and treated well of course it will be happy.

Happier than if it was dead anyway. Putting down animals is only okay when they are in pain that can't be fixed imo.

Your mum should grow a pair and take the dog with her to the unit, hide it and take it for walks and whatnot.
