So it looks like ID and an advertising company will release a version of quake 3 playable through web browsers for free. Online tournaments, quake and free go together so, so well.

I remember a tech demo of this in around 2002 using Shockwave. It was pretty decent. Glad to see it wasn't forgotten.

Glad to see it wasn't forgotten. was that the one of the cut-down q3a level with the Unreal-looking characters? there was another browser-based 3D shooter that popped up ~2005/6 that was a CS/Deathmatch clone. It didn't nearly run as well (and lag kinda killed it really), but the idea was awesome |

Yeh I can remember playing a browser based shooter a few years back. Definitely a cool idea for someone like me who doesn't want to install any games.

Can't be bothered finding the link, but when Carmack mentioned this ages ago, he inferred it was fairly platform independent. i.e. Win/Mac/Linux etc.

Ive always wondered why ID dont make License card software for like Qld Transport and Vic Roads etc.
Coz then I could say, "yea my Id is made by ID" !!! That would be Massive! |

Ive always wondered why ID dont make License card software for like Qld Transport and Vic Roads etc. You mean you've always wondered about this, because it seems odd or problematic that a foreign software company doesn't issue driver's licences? Or is it because you pronounce the name of the software company incorrectly... |

No, id is a word that you pronounce like a normal word.
Here so you don't have to click the link
The bit in bold is probably why they thought it would make a good name. last edited by Idol at 20:43:38 21/Feb/08 |

My understanding is id came from John's former group called IFD(Ideas From The Deep) so did you actually read the wiki? ....the correct pronunciation of which is a much-argued subject.[citation needed] The current official pronunciation is id as in "did" or "kid", which is in coincidental reference to the id as a psychological concept developed by Sigmund Freud. |

Yes i have since i found the wiki.
Then posted to let others know of my n00by ways. That ok with you whoop? I just want to make sure. You seem to have sand in your Vag. Is it sandy? Have you been to a beach lately coz most of them have been shut due to windyness. Perhaps some sand flew up your skirt and got lodged in between your manlips? |

and Compuserve called Gifs "Jifs" as an in-joke about something local, and that is apparently the correct way to say Gif. But I ask you this... does 'graphical interchange format' get pronounced 'jraphical interchange format' ? no...

so did you actually read the wiki? You mean the wiki that goes on to say attributing themselves as "IFD guys". Since the term "id" can be seen as a shortening of IFD to "ID", |

Hmm, seems IGA has stolen the word freemium and are trying to re-coin it, as the definitions seem to differ significantly...
Wikipedia: "offering basic services for free, while charging a premium for advanced or special features" IGA: "free-to-play premium games" last edited by kos at 22:06:14 25/Feb/08 |
