Topic: Asus P5kc Problem running 1066 Ram?

I have just bought Team Xtreem 4x1gb (2x dual channel kits) 1066Mhz 5,5,5,15 timings, 2.3-2.4v Ram. Im trying to run it on an Asus P5KC mainboard with a Q6600 cpu. I am also running a Raid 0 config with 2 x 250 NCQ SATAII drives and another 200gb not in raid. The non raid drive boots XP and Raid has Vista 64. Sorry about the elaborate background on my computer, but I am at a loss as to where to point the finger on this problem.

The computer runs fine when all the jumper free configs are on auto, it boots with the ram at 800 and 5,5,5,16. When I set the values to run at 1066 (1067?) and the appropriate timings and voltages, it POST's and straight after (where it would go to the screen to choose which OS to boot off) it says "The file is probably corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum" or it says something along the lines of "inproper boot disk, insert boot disk and hit any key".

Upon Restart, at POST it says "Unknown CPU detected. Bios update required to unleash its full power. Press F1 to Resume"

Other funny things it has done with my various fiddlings is when it reaches the boot menu that has the two OS's to choose from, it lasts like 0.1 sec before restarting. Also it has reached this stage once, but instead of having this screen, the bottom half of the screen is blank and the top half has descending thick white lines?!?

I have the latest BIOS (0903?) and from what i understand the board should be able to manage everything i have running on it. I originally thought it was the northbridge s***ting out a bit. I tried upping the NB voltage and no dice there.

Keep in mind im on this computer at the moment and its running with the ram at 800 and 5,5,5,16. What are your thoughts? Bad RAM? Bad Board? Bad luck? Someone out there must know!

Cheers

P.S. This is what the alphabet would look like if Q and R were removed from it.

P.P.S Sorry about the essay above and i will post my reference list later!

1001 looks like the latest BIOS.

As for running 4 sticks @ 1066mhz, good luck with that.

Forgot to mention, I had all 4gb working at 1066 and left it on over night (as you do) and in the morning was a black screen. Wouldnt post. Found 1 of the sticks was causing it to not post. Ever since then it has been doing the above mentioned. Wont run 1 or 2 or 4 at 1066 even with the replacement ram

edit^^ is your motherboard rated to handle speeds that fast?

Last time I futzed with my ram the computer died so I just leave it to auto and don't care about latency timings. You're not alone.

while the 1001 bios for the P5KC ensures compatibility for your 8 series cpu, I wasn't aware it could support your ram.

you know - you could have a Gigabyte G33 based micro board with decent performance for less bucks and better ram compatibility.

I still can't figure out how such a cheap mobo gets such a f***ing awesome Vista perormance score :/

btw - I hate Gigabyte with a f***ing passion. I can't wait to take a torch to this f***ing thing. Pull your f***ing finger out Asus and make an awesome G33/P35 mobo for the same bux!

...and stuff

lots of smaller one-man-band guys out there charge sweet fark all to fix probs with your machine if you bought it from the same place they wholesale thru (ie: Computer Alliance, UMart, Computer Empire, Triera, Tailored Computer Solutions, gawd the list goes on)

My main board *was* good for overclocking, and has ddr3 dimms which i intended using at some stage. Thats why i got what i got, it was the future proof solution. That; and gigabyte can suck my nuts...
