scenario;

Xbox360 - Receiver - Projector, receiver doesn't have HDMI so I just use it for digital/analogue sound and rca/svideo soruces etc

the projector does have hdmi, i want to plug the hdmi video into the projector from the xbox360 but I want the sound to hit the receiver for obvious reasons
now with the ps3 you can do it no worries, with the xbox360 you can't have both the audio/video cable and the hdmi cable plugged in at the same time because they're too fat to plug in at the same time (stupid design) - so how do you overcome this?

really what I think I need is to either upgrade the receiver to one which has HDMI or buy some kind of device which can take a hdmi signal and split the audio/video into two outputs..

ideas?

The Microsoft branded Xbox360 hdmi cable comes with a seperate audio out cable.

That should solve your problem, tho it does mean buying one of those =p

Unless you're running 1080p in the games, just use component cables.

Quick and nasty hack job if you don't care about it looking ugly. http://www.chadledford.com/?p=50 or http://blog.wilcoxusa.net/?p=518 Otherwise, buy the official adapter or just use component.

oh what, hell i'll buy the cable - didnt even know it existed tbh
I just thought they were as stupid as we all imagined and designed it so you cant use them together by accident, turns out they're just gorging more profit like normal

cheers lads, thread over
