Mate just got a new PC for doing some multitrack recording of bands. Just finished loading XP onto it and looking for mulittrack software that is good and relialbe.
Ive Used adobe audition in the past, aswell as cubase and sonar. I like adobe audition cause it was easy and seemed to work pretty well. |

Pro Tools is prossibly one the best. My dad has Cubase SE (not the super SX version) but its prolly one of the other rly good ones.
Id say Pro Tools or Cubase SX |

I run a Protools setup (with a swag of effect / mastering plugins & a virtual drummer addon) - it's pretty much the industry standard now.

Protools isn't just software though, it requires some hardware, and ideally a mixing deck... I'm not sure you can even get the software to work without at least the USB dongle thing...

But if you've bought the machine specifically for this purpose, it is something worth considering, since it is so widely used. If you become efficient with protools there are even career opportunities there. There are a whole bunch of different options for protools setup so you might find something that would work with the equipment you've got there.

If you've built a rig for professional multitrack recording, then not buying something like an MBox mini just as a hardware key for ProTools is a little stupid, especially considering how cheap they are in comparison to everything else.
It'll be almost impossible to avoid dealing with a ProTools session, whether you're dealing with bands bringing their stuff in, or even bands that you've recorded bringing their stuff to labels or other people who need to deal with multitrack stuff. last edited by sprayNwipe at 06:10:08 30/Dec/07 |

might have a look at the protools software, but from a quick look it wont work with the card my mate already has, its an 8in/8out card with rackmount breakout box, and it cost a fair bit so he's not gonna replace it anytime soon.

your interlect overwhelms me paveway
anyway i'm a long time Pro-Tools user, however if you are determined not to use it your only real option is Cuebase SX 3 or Steinberg Nuendo |

I like Audition, 2 is a lot better than 1.5 for the record.
Whats involved in running protools? Is it dificult to use? ie. Do you need a trained engineer to operate it? and how is it with working with VST's etc? |

Well the setup I've used at a studio involved a PCI card which I think connected to a device called an 'M-box' which to me looked like a modem, which in turn connected to a mixing deck, there was also a USB dongle for anti-piracy (which can probably be emulated/cracked). I read somewhere that nowadays you can get the m-box functionality in the USB dongle in a light version of the platform, whatever that means...
The software interface did seem a bit of a c*** at first, but being so widely used I'm sure there are plenty of tutorials to help out online. |
