For some reason I just couldn't turn this s*** off last night, there was a puzzle on "add the reds" which was one vague-arse puzzle which had a short sentence in it, some words were in red, some were in white, some of the words contained the string 'red', etc ... so anyway in total I counted '21' reds.
Now I don't ring these shows because I know how it works, but nevertheless I stayed up till the wee hours of the morning to see if I was right. I swear this puzzle was going for about 2 hours, and NO ONE SOLVED IT. A lot of people guessed 5 and 18 which were earlier guesses of mine - before reinterpreting the puzzle after hearing the wrong answer. Some people were guessing the 70-80 range which is about how many red letters there were, and some people had number like 600 or 700 - I think they were multiplying something. In the end they said "The answer was 1237, dunno how to work that one out but there you go!" what the f***?? what the f***? How can they just say that and not explain it? Can't they have just made up a bulls*** answer so that nobody won the $7000 prize? This makes me angry. |

Similar situation... it was a maths puzzle and in the end, the answer was something completely random that made NO sense at all.
Also I suspect they "screen" the calls and let through noobs that have the wrong answer. |

its like she was watching hotdogs Luckily I speak fluent Swedish Chef - "Oh nooooo! Why would they have this disgusting Hot Dogs man on tv?" And yes, it takes that many words to say one sentence in Swedish Chef. last edited by Kamma at 15:52:57 29/Dec/07 |

He's saying - "A hormonal puppy locks tongues with a three toed sloth in the cockpit of a mech."
Then proceeds to spout racial slurs at the guys on the balcony and throw Meatballs at them. last edited by Kamma at 16:01:18 29/Dec/07 |

OK, the show is on again! It's on channel 9!
Now if you answer the 3 questions, the answer is 9.. right.. but there could be some bulls*** to it... |

No someone guessed 9.... well then you must have to include the numbers "1, 2, and 3" and the word 'number' . Well then, it's 18, but someone already guessed that too...

Unless you're into that lateral thinking s*** it won't make any sense. My misses loves lateral thinking puzzles. I don't get them but she tends to find them quite fun and easy... Questions like these f***ing things...."A man lives on the twelfth floor of an apartment building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. In the evening, he gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in the elevator -- or if it was raining that day -- he goes back to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the tenth floor and walks up two flights of stairs to his apartment." ...Answer: The man is a dwarf. He can't reach the upper elevator buttons, but he can ask people to push them for him. He can also push them with his umbrella. Lateral thinking = gay |

No see I'm rather good at this kind of stuff, so it really bothers me, because if they did some s*** like a = 1, b = 2, etc.. then they'd really be pushing it too far - it's not possible to reach an answer from the information given.
I've seen one where they basically had a crossword type thing where one word was blank _ _ _ _ 4 letters like that, and people were ringing in with guesses that fit perfectly in the puzzle, but they were saying it was wrong... because it wasn't the same word that they'd thought of - well that's bulls*** I say, the puzzle has more than one answer unless they make the conditions of finding a solution more specific.. |

Add the numbers
1. The number of days between Christmas Day and New Years Day 2. The number of vowels in the word "BEACH" 3. The number of odd numbers between thirteen and nineteen Now I would think that the answer was 5 + 2 + 2 = 9, but apparently that's wrong. If it's inclusive on the betweens then it's 7 + 2 + 4 = 13, but that's wrong too. I'd be intereted in what other people come up with... |

Or if the christmas and new years is in the same year 358 + 2 + 2 = 362 or 360 + 2 + 4 = 366 inclusive.

ITV here in the UK got in a whole heap of trouble over these type of competitions.. fined 70 million pounds because basically no-one could ever get the answer right aswell as closing competition lines after 2 minutes and advertising the very same closed lines (eg no one would make it into the queue) some 38mins later...
plus a whole host of other monumental f***-ups for other channels re: phone in comps.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7156466.stm |

3. The number of odd numbers between thirteen and nineteenReading another thread about these shows, they do s*** like this.. 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 So the odd numbers between "13" and "19" are, 1 1 1 1 1 5 7 15 17. Yeah its stupid s*** like that that you'll never get in a million years. 1. The number of days between Christmas Day and New Years Daywouldnt be surprised if it was crap like monday, tuesday etc. |

Ok, fair enough, but if they're going to do that sort of s***, they should let people know how they arrived at the answer...
I was reading the terms and conditions, and they apparently ask you your answer prior to putting you on TV, and if you give them the "right" answer, they're well within their rights to put you in the "second chance" draw, which divides the $5000 (or whatever) between all the people that got it right. And yeah, they aren't puzzles. It's like me saying: Q: 23 + 6? A: 32987 If you ask me why, I don't have to tell you. Which is essentially reducing the entire thing to a guessing competition, and therefore should be advertised as such. |

You know what I found most interesting about that article Boxhead posted?
The BBC is now sending all programme-makers on a course called Safeguarding Trust, where they debate the line between acceptable "artifice" and unacceptable "deception". That debate will continue in 2008.This sort of thinking has becomed so ingrained thst they're training people how to be sneaky without lying! They haven't even gone so far as training people in how to be honest... *sigh* last edited by Mantra at 16:22:09 30/Dec/07 |
