So it turns out the mobile I won is locked to the Vodafone network (which I am not on), so is there an easy way to unlock it?

There are the 'dodgy' shops here too, but not really sure I want to do that.

yea as far as i know you can only pay whatever vodafone's unlocking fee is, or recharge to a certain amount and it'll unlock automatically buuuut i don't know if you can transfer that credit or not

When i got my vodafone unlocked, all you had to do was go in and they did it for free. I think you can also do it on the vodafone web site as well but you might need a vodafone account to finish it

for some reason it is putting in an extra "http//" remove that and the link works

got it unlocked for free today, called voda, explained the situation (that I won it from work xmas party) and they unlocked it there and then

good times.

seems like a pretty decent mobile, still haven't had a 'real' play with it yet.
