Hey all.
I have an 07 lancer sedan and in the boot I have a Kicker L7 sub running off the ZX750.4 amp. That amp is mounted on the left hand side of the sub and below that amp I have the kicker zx750.5 amp running 2 sets of splits. 1 set of Kicker RS splits and 1 set of the SS splits. The other day when I was driving to the gold coast, I crossed over the gateway and all music cut out. I pulled over, turned the car off, turned back on and music started again. Further down the road I think the speaker amp turned off. But when I turned the car on and off it didn't come back on. I had a look at the amps and they were cooking. Is there something I can get to air condition the boot and cool the temp down? as I believe this is why the amps kept cutting in and out all day, TIA |

Short of installing some kind of portable fan in the back.. have you attempted turning down the gains etc and running stuff off the amps with slightly less power?

think of all the people with amps that run them in boots daily for hours on end whose don't overheat
even if it is an overheating issue, air conditioning isnt the solution. |

Yeah. I havn't specifically tried that. But the gain is only on 3 qtrs, bass is on low as I have the sub for that. And the rear speakers have slightly more power as they are the better speakers. But short of that, any other ideas? cheers though.
Exactly Mr. Hardware. So they have to have something installed to keep them cool. So what is it? |

that the main reason why i made my amp under my seats.... when it gets to hot put the aircon on... lol

I was going to do that, but the amp is too long for under the seats.
No. Just the power |

Exactly Mr. Hardware. So they have to have something installed to keep them cool. So what is it? Not necessarily, i have an alpine MRV-F545 without any additional cooling. A few of my mates with audio setups don't have anything installed to keep the temp down either. Kicker make decent amps so it wouldn't be a problem with it being s*** or anything. Did you have any trouble before this summer heat kicked in? |

Is it an older amp? I had an alpine 4ch that would do the same thing on really hot days after being on for an hour or so...
I pulled it apart recently to have a look and found that the thermal paste was crusty as, but since I don't use the amp anymore, I haven't bothered redoing it (big job). What do you mean you're briding the power? I was bridging channels. |

^ I've only had it installed for about 2 weeks now. So not really.
I think it's because the same hot air is been circulated around the boot of the car. Into the sub, out of the sub then around the amps. In the boot of the car it is the 2 amps and the sub so it just adds up to one big oven :( |

Nope. Both are brand new. The amp for the sub is about a month and the amp for the speakers are about 2 weeks. The power from the battery runs into the boot of the car where it is split by a splitter box and then runs to the 2 amps. (through the fuse box first before the sub amp) |

Hmm pretty hard to think of a solution. Theres no practical way to fit them under the seats?
Not really much else to do apart from checking the wiring/settings. Does your lancer have a parcel shelve? last edited by Alt_F4 at 14:33:25 30/Oct/07 |

Perhaps its just not a suitable amp for your boot...
Do you have a ski-hatch in the back seat? |

take out the amp and the rest of the stereo gear too imo, it's only slowing you down.
