Topic: Messaging randoms on Facebook/Orkut/MySpace/etc

So I've been playing around with Facebook lately as the latest toy, and was just perusing random peoples profiles (yeah yeah, stalker) but I've never been the type to just message random people, even if they sound interesting or their profile indicates they might have something in common.

However, on Orkut I had quite a few people do so from time to time, so I'm curious - who here tends to message random people they dont know, and why? Met (or dated) anyone interesting short or long term as a result of doing so at all?

How about the other way around? Do you just consider people to be freaks when they message you seemingly randomly, or are you okay with it?

Stories? Discuss :)

i predict major sociological/pyschological problems for the myspace generation. look forward in about 20 years for studies of the damage online communities will have done to inter-personal skills and relationships.

If I see someone i'm really interested in, i'll have no trouble messaging them. I've made a few friends/girlfriends off the internet, and once you get to know them they cease to be an "internet" person.

Anyway, how is it any different to approaching random girls in a club?

I've met loads of people off the internet, usually from forums though.

That being said, every single person had something "wrong" with them. Take QGL for example, now people here have some serious skeletons.

The trick to running a good creep is learning to 'up your stock'.

At the start creep up a few hood rats and see what you can get a comment roll going. Find an angle by either portraying yourself as a bad ass, a car guy, a rock star, some art fag or whatever. Don't try to get anyone liking you for yourself because remember we are after hood rats here (which you don't want anyways) and gettin down with a slut infested subculture is easy business with skillful photography. You can ditch these pics and replace them once you've got a bit of a ho train running.

Once you have a few commenting you then creep up some which are a bit hotter than your current crop. Then once you have a have a few of them trade up again. Rinse, repeat. If one hot girl sees another hot girl after you will be A-OK. If she feels like the only one talking to you then you will appear creepy. Once you have lots of hotties and are high flying you need to cull the hood rats so you look like you have standards.

Happy space ranging

You can't read someone's facebook profile without being their friend.

I'm curious as to what you think the purpose of a SOCIAL NETWORKING site is, if not for meeting new people :P
