At work however the email settings are such that when you click on an email it automatically opens in the viewing pane. I happened to glance at the text and was shocked by what I saw. Below is the content of the email. I have not changed the text at all except to delete the link etc. I mean, wtf is that "Something for fun" bit all about?

What's creeping me out is that these letters are working... otherwise they wouldn't send them.

Ones like that (with wierd text, 'bad' words interspersed with 'good' words) are usually trying to mess with the Bayesian filtering of your anti-spam filter. Although if that's the case here, it would seem to be a pretty lame attempt. To its credit it did make it through your filter - if you've got one?

The better ones I've seen just cut and paste some text from a random innocent webpage, hide the text in html, and then use an image to do the advertising (or windows GDI+ buffer overrun exploit). Of course that doesn't work very well if you're viewing in text mode. And once you've tuned your filtering you can eliminate these too.
