Hi guys,
this machine keeps crashing when I use certain programs like Adobe Flash CS3, and EditPlus (a notepad type app) I would like to try and troubleshoot the source of this problem. Is there some kind of error logging software that can give me a clue as to why this is happening? |

areas of the screen go white for a bit, like the screen isn't being redrawn correctly, it seems difficult to use the mouse and switch windows and stuff, then I cop the dialog box where you click "don't send"

Firstly run the event viewer (Start->Run->eventvwr.exe), click System and look for evil looking entries (red cirle with cross). Read such messages.

Check your pagefile setting make sure it's set to let windows manage. (I have noticed that this has recently stop a lot of random problems occuring, must have been something in one of the windows updates *shrug*)
But unfortunately it could be hard or soft, ie. soft : a corrupted registry, a f***ed driver or dll; hard: dying PSU, CPU, memory, HDD or mobo ... www.eventid.net has lots of problems not many solutions. |

RAM problem or corrupted (possibly failing) harddrive. The memtest recommendation is good, this will either confirm or eliminate the RAM as the problem.

if memtest comes up clean
grab seagate tools or whatever disk diagnostics you have and run the extended tests |

Memtest was clean, 5 passes no errors. I will try the hard drive diagnostic.

Did you try setting windows to manage the pagefile ?
... System properties, Advanced, Performance, Settings, advanced, Virtual memory, change, System managed Size, set. It fixes all sorts of weird things, A problem we had with Photoshop, a different problem with Console One, even fixed a mate with a 8800gts640mb that would crash in games despite having 4gig of ram. |
