I have a G7 Logitech mouse but the USB component snapped off in the usb port - making my mouse ineffective. I was hoping that someone here might know how i can get away with this cheeply. Does anyone have this part lying around or know someone who does? Cheers.

As Far as I am aware, you can't even buy replacement batteries for the G7 mouse.
They actually come under a warranty because of it..

I.E. If your batteries start draining very quickly and not holding charge they replace the entire mouse for you.

(That's what rubba told me anyway)..

So given that you can't even get new batteries, I'd say you're f*ked.

buy a usb mouse for cheap and cut the plug off it & solder to your mouse?

Just buy a usb extension cable, cut the end off the extension, cut the end off the mouse - solder, done!
