Hi I've recently bought a new gen 2 8gb nano, and when I use it with Etymotic ER6i canal phones the sound quality is pretty s***ty, well alot s***ty - does anyone else have the same problem? I've got the gen 1 shuffle 1gb and the sound quality on that is heaps better, I also have a 30gb ipod video and the sound quality is fantastic on that as well. Did apple make any changes to the ipod's decoder or anything like that? thanks |

I've read that some of the new ipods can get f***ed around with by microwaves. Go and unplug your microwave and then try.

Maybe they don't output as much power... You may need a headphone amp.

wouldn't canalphones use less power than regular ear bud headphones anyway?
i have those headphones and they sound awesome with my 80gb video ipod. |

Its not the power, its the impedence. And better headphones normally have higher impedence.
I don't think thats what it would be anyway... Maybe your ipod is broken? last edited by mongie at 10:58:07 20/Jun/07 |

Hey Heardy, I remember a while back in a thread about ipods (can't remember if I made the thread, posted in it or just read it) someone mentioned something about the new ipods having poorer quality. I can remember being confused because I woudl have thoought it was just the quality of the file... but apparently not.

wtf, i use er6i's with my 1G 4Gb nano and it sounds awesome!! albeit ive installed rockbox on it, and added 2dB to the bass and 1dB to the treble frequencies. its very very important to get the correct seal with the er6i's too. no seal = no bass
also remember the er6i is a neutral canalphone, its not meant to be full on club bass, instead its meant to be super clear on all frequencies. (in fact i think its got very good tight bass, and excellent treble clarity) (got some experience with canalphones here, moved on from sony ex51 and shure e2c's and have used koss ksc-75's on it) |

ahaha f***ing s*** on me for not reading the whole post....
yer i read that apple changed the audio decoder chip to another manufacturer which has a lower SNR and more THD and that the DAC isnt as good as the 1G nano. |
