Hey guys.
I have some video footage off my DVC that's captured in AVI format. I was wondering what's a good program to make a short GIF out of it? (like 1-3 seconds per gif max/couple of frames) Last one I used went funky (played super fast in FF and slow-mo in IE) and that was years ago, I HAVE NFI what people use :] Cheers! |

output each frame as jpeg using virtualdub then use adobe imageready & "import folder as frames". You can get a free trial of photoshop which I think still includes imageready.

That'd be an assload of frames Sam.
I tried Gif Movie Gear. Works well except when I create the gif - no matter what I do [adjusting frame delays etc.] I get a slow motion gif rather than normal speed. >< Ahhh, figured it out, GIF's don't like alot of frames and seem to play slowly even at the lowest timing setting when there's an assload of frames. last edited by Loki at 01:18:29 19/Jun/07 |

That's because movies play at 25 frames per second, so 25 of your individual frames go by every second. Try removing a few frames. I start by deleting every 2nd frame.

Yeah I don't know why.
But what I basically did was : Remove 3 frames, then optimise, then remove 2 frames. then optimise (brought it down to like 800k from 3mb). Anyway, it played slow-motion in windows default viewer (when double-clicking the gif) But in both Firefox and IE it plays at a relatively normal speed to me (not quite as smooth as the AVI due to missing frames obviously but yeah). |

You can import avi's straight into adobe image ready and convert it to a gif whoop you nub yep... just cut your movie up using the one of the many quick movie editors around.. hell windows movie maker will do the job, then import and play with the frames and then your done. the longer *bigger file size* of the footage the longer photoshop takes to convert and dont be suprised if it hangs. but it works and its the easiest way. |

For making animated gif grom video you can try VidGif by geovid. I used this software and it works fine for me. I tried to do little animated avatar in Photoshop Image ready and I have spended a lot of time and it works not good.
