BTB (Bobs Track Builder) is a track creation and editing program that works with a bunch of car games, which are more like sims these days unless you happen to come from the console playing, arcade mode side of the tracks. (ohh cue opinionated bait biters)

The Australian developer, Brendon Pywell has just added pretty comprehensive support for the sim Richard Burns Rally.

There are some nice features http://bobstrackbuilder.net/features.aspx such as being able to import GPS and Google Earth data to facilitate rapid development of long stretches of road and scenery elements.

Its been a while coming, and it lets you build almost any kind of track you can think up.

A few ideas Ive stormed up are...

The Great Ocean Road on South Coast, Victoria.
http://www.greatoceanrd.org.au/highlights/theroad/index.asp

The back road to the Mt Cootha lookout, from Bardon. The one that winds past various TV broadcasting stations.

A bunch of sections of roads in the Brisbane hinterland region.
http://www.brisbanehinterland.com.au/map/

The 'fun' section of the Toowoomba range.

Various roads winding through and around national parks in NSW and Victoria (Jindabyne, Perisher/Smigs, Thredbo)

The road that takes you to Heavens Kitchen, north of Townsville.

QR racetrack and other facilities at Willowbank.

The Archerfield / Kingston park raceway Go kart tracks.

...and probably many more.

Have I sparked some want in you to help develop some tracks? I don't know where I will find the time but it could be a bit of fun.

Isn't "Richard Burns Rally" available on 2 "console(s) ... arcade mode side of the tracks" ?

"console playing, arcade mode" are mutually inclusive as RBR on the xbox/ps# doesnt have an arcade mode.

phew I saved that for just this type of comment :-)

So are you trying to say consoles can be arcade but aren't always ? and if so does that automatically defeat your previous inferred argument that console gamers were only interested in arcade mode ? Particularly given there are "arcade mode" games available on non console platforms.

I don't know Obes, you're starting to articulate beyond my understanding of what it is you are speaking about. However I do have this for you. :-)

You said it was bait in your first post.

Trouble is did you hook yourself on your own lure ?

Its more likely that I set a double standard in your understanding of what I originally wrote that makes it appear as though I am biting my own bait.

No, I think you proved your original argument had minimal factual basis.

Obes you take the aside joke in my original post way too seriously.

What are you a console publisher with a lot of money dumped into some title in the release pipe?
