Hey all, i've got a problem with whenever my sister uses msn, or browses the internet on her computer it slows mine to a halt almost (999 connection interupted in quake3 and slow loading websites).

Surely simply her browsing and using msn cant be enough to f*** me up like that can it? We're both running winxp pro, my computer has the modem on it and is sharing it to her computer. Anyone know of any GOOD free programs to cut her bandwidth availability riiiiight down? We're on Bigpond Cable by the way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem with my sister on msn limewire and myspace 24/7.
Uninstall her internets and blame it on a virus, I did.

Buy a hardware router, turn on QoS and limit the physical port she's on. Windows ICS is bollocks for any sort of control of stuff.

Free solutions I don't know about but net limiter would probably do the trick, not sure of any free variants though.

anything with 256k upload should be okay... if you were to goto 512k+ up you could also be of better assistance to the local torrent linux iso sharing community

Speaking of CS: Source.... I recently gave WoW the finger and really miss shooting people directly in the face and calling people f*****s. However I haven't played since 1.6, where all you need was HL. Do I need HL2 to play source or can I just cruise into EB and say "1 source plz"?

you can install steam and buy cs source all by itself over the internet. I don't know if it's a separate sale in stores though, I got it on cd with hl2.

Chances are she has spyware on her machine or something like that hammering the net. If it is n't spyware it would be a virus.

Instll windows defender and do a full spyware scan and then isntall avg and ru na full virus scan.

Post her msn details and the boys of QGL will have a chat with her and sort it all out.

She's probably firing up her camwhore profile which would account for the outbound bandwidth usage killing your link.

Her machine probably has some spyware on there that is trying to open 100,000,000 ports all at once and in doing so, kills the net (and her pc performance too).

It sounds to me like you are running out of upload bandwidth. Cable should easily be able to handle you playing games and her viewing and downloading stuff. However aus broadband in general has really crap upload bandwidth and it dosnt take much to chew it all up. Specially if you or your sis has spyware/virus on your putur's doing some secret upload business.
