Hey guys, just got approached about a position with them, and wanted to know if anyone has any experience working for them?
If you've got something horrible to say about them and don't want to say it in the forums, please feel free to PM me. :) If you've got something great to say, I'd love to hear it too :) Cheers, Ges |

I work for them and work with awesome guys in a small team. I am within MMS not MRD. MMS is their support side, MRD is their development side.

I went for a job interview about 2 years ago with them, and they seemed like a great company but the pay was pretty average so I declined.

I worked there and it's s***. Don't do it, you will regret it, I too worked in MMS in the NT admin team. The only thing holding the place together is the people but everything else is f***ed up.
It was not out of the ordinary for us to be working 50-55hrs a week without overtime or TOIL. When it was time for oncall you could easily expect an 80-90hr a week which is nowhere near what the oncall allowance is worth. MMS is an Australian outsourcer so expect outsourcer like conditions. Ordinary pay, long hours, high stress and demand, no investment from management, eg; they are still running an NT4 domain on equipment that even the computer market would pass on. Last I remember is that their BDC for the entire MINCOM domain blue screened every day or so and had no backups. |

heh, they have a very snazzy building in the cbd.
Goes to show you cant judge an IT company by its company building/workplace. |

Yeah I worked there in the MMS team onsite at one of there clients. Pretty good place, good people. The bad things however are:
-average management(not the worst tho) -monthly pays -waiting a month to get raises approved. -red tape, you spend an equal time documentating then just doing the damn thing. pretty important document tho, sucks when no one else does it. -My only real beef with mincom is how defined your role is. You may get bored with the variety of work you do. smaller companies ftw, learn way more. There are cool things about it too tho. e.g. if you work in the mincom building they have a pool, gym, social functions etc. They are pretty happy to offer training etc. |

hehe.. sounds like my current position, but with more structure and focus :D
Also, the training is a BIG plus for me.. I'm currently the "guru" where I work, and that scares me for several reasons. 1, I know how much I don't know, and 2, I don't have the opportunity to push myself particularly hard, nor do I have the option to develop my skills through training, either formal or from peers. :( From what I've seen, it appears they're a reasonable mob to work for (at least, in the area I'm looking at) with some nice perks, coupled with some of the (usual, but) less desirable aspects of working for a large company. Thanks for the feedback everyone :) Cheers, Ges |

Err, there is no training at Mincom - they lied to you in the interview (trust me on this).
If you're in MRD you'll be set, but forget MMS. |

Wart i work in security now :D
I will actually support Mincom with my current position and teams. I am not sure what the NT team is like but there are some very tallented people in the team. Also there has been major managment restructures which imo has have a very positive effect on the company and salaries. If you know what you are worth and will not just cruise along for the reide and are proactive in your Career then it is a good place to work. As for the long hours in NT i am pretty sure you do get compinsated for them if you actually stand up and apply for the hours. |

Nar no comepsnation in the NT team for anything. Every weekly meeting was the same bitch fest and fight. Mac's doing a good job now but back with AGT ran the team it was a shambles.

I will say its got a pleasant, laid back atmosphere. It can get frustrating at times as the company never seems to learn from its mistakes, but if you can just relax and go with the flow its not too bad.
Oh, and don't come looking for a good salary. Mincom is not a company that is interested in looking after its employees, or making sure they are satisfied with their work or pay. |

might not be bad for new staff. i heard that the old staff (4+ years) haven't got a pay rise for so long entry level developers were being hired with larger salaries.

Except I wasn't ready and all I got was a squishy lap :( Edit: Disgruntled yes, just because I don't want others to have to experience a company like it :) |
