When you make instant coffee, do you put the milk in first then the water or the other way around?

I find if you put the water in first and then add milk it tastes loads better because the coffee and sugar doesn't dissolve properly in the milk or something and it all clumps together and is very gay.

The hot water also brings out the coffee flavour more. But instant coffee, tiny bit of boiling water, milk, nuked it to make it hot, tastes best. Nothing beats a fresh coffee though.

Well it isn't, because I have noticed a s***load of people put the milk in first and it ruins the whole coffee so this is a public awareness thread.

(also a subtle payout of kat)

tastes alot better milk first, otherwise you burn the coffee. You can dissolve the coffee+sugar in the milk fine if you just stir it

Milk first... always! It does depend on the coffee though. With Moccona it's the shiz. I find it takes some of the bitterness and "thinness".

So there.

This belief is probably introduced by people trained in espresso

Technically coffee shouldn't see over 90 degrees c, tops, so by milking first, you're achieving that.

Instant coffee, however, is f***ing sawdust, and if you give a f*** about coffee, you're drinking espresso anyway.. Right ?

As if u would add the milk first!! Definitely BOILING water, then a little milk.

On a more important note though...green/black tea or hot choc is better.

I hate to break it to people, but instant coffee is burnt many times in the preperation process ... the last thing you need to worry about is burning it with hot water. Now freshly ground coffee can certainly be burnt and you should always mix it with a little warm water before using a plunger / percolator.

I have a dirty little secret, sometimes I get a mug of milk, warm it up in the microwave and then stir instant coffee and sugar through it.

instant coffee is gross, and should only be consumed when it is bitterly cold but there is no way to access real coffee.

Oh yeah, and asif milk first, that's stupid.
