Topic: Adobe Fagobat Reader Alternative?

Is there an alternative to Adobe Acrobat Reader that isn't..
Oh I dunno, an unstable piece of @#$%ing crap?

How the hell did PDF become an accepted format?
Forced to use it for uni since journal articles insist on being in this format, and if you know QUT's lovely "security" of having to input your username and password 8000000 times you go to the library it gets frustrating when Acros*** Reader crashes firefox because Acros*** decides it can't load.

And this is on a <2 Hour fresh install of windows ~_~

I'd look up google and tell you but you got pretty emotional yesterday when people were using google to provide them brain injury and regrowth answers...

other then that preview works pretty well on my mac.. you can prolly use it if you get a hold of the 'pc' version of osx...

Yeah the alternatives from google don't look very good though Boxy.
And google searching programs usually doesn't help find the decent one people would actually recommend.

P.S. I think you have me confused with demon.

Go back to fighting Hemmorhoids captain cockwallet, your wasting my valuable kilobits of download.

[edit] G'dammit >.< You were the only one who got angry demon :P

And I tried googling, the alternatives I found looked crap - wondering what is the most recommended. =\

Hashy - I have acrobat reader installed but when you open a pdf file it opens within a firefox tab?
This is of course, opening off a hyperlink, and I don't really want to 'save-as' a load of articles to my desktop.
It shows the acrobat splash and that it's loading then puts it into the firefox tab I mean.

[edit AGAIN] - Omg it's Denny!
Thanks mate, I will give that a try, it looks alot better than the other crappy ones I found.

Cheers.

Don't use firefox for acrobat reader?

PDF became an accepted format since Adobe are f***ing masterminds and were one of the first on the block with a format specifically designed and advertised to be universally standard and had a huge presence early on. I've had no issues with acrobat's standalone reader.

i've been using Foxit PDF Reader for a while and found it more than adequate. It doesn't open the PDF in browser but who wants that feature anyway?

Hrm, is there a way to click on a PDF link and have Foxit open the PDF file?
Firefox is just opening in the page and now says missing plugin la la la (since I uninstalled acrobat reader) - I have set foxit to default reader but no joy =(
It seems a zillion times better at opening pdf files in speed department though.

Get a Firefox plugin which will reduce the level of annoyance:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/636/

Allows to choose if you want to view a PDF file inside the browser (as PDF or HTML), if you want to view it outside Firefox with your default or custom PDF reader, or if you want to download it!

Edit: Damnit for some reason that link doesn't work....

Go here:
http://www.rabotat.org/firefox/index2.php

Or here

Legendary Opec and Denny.
Between that and Foxit, problems look liek they will have been solved.
No more Acrobat Reader thank god.

Thanks heaps.
Appreciated.

[edit] CA - Foxit seems to have no dramas with messing up the viewing for me.
The plugin just provides a file saving window with whether you want to open it in firefox/external reader or save it - isntead of having to right click, save it then open it manually etc.

[edit2] Oh yea, this is far far better - Foxit opens even large pdf files instantaneously. Neat'o

Alternatively:

You'll now get prompted to open/save like any other file.

You could just copy and paste links that end in .pfd into IE.

I tried foxit but it has issues with viewing newer format PDFs, there were quite a few it couldn't display, or would bork on. The key thing with pdfs to do is to ensure you aren't viewing them in-browser. Either get a plugin that fires up acrobat in a second process or save-as them and then double click.
