i know a guy that does stock market trading or something along those lines

he had 250grand and doubled it to 500grand in two years.

on another note, i have an ex-workmate friend who's brother is big into stock trading (he uses other peoples money), one day he lost 1.8million of this guys money. But within 6 months he had paid the guy back/made money.

pretty scary game really :)

k here's a gambling plan i regularly do. I'm well up on this one.

sportsbettin
favorite paying $1.80
other paying $3.20

other bet for $100
favourite bet for $220
TOTAL BET outlay $320

OTHER TEAM WINS - WIN $320 (get your money back)
FAV TEAM WINS - WIN $396 ($76 Profit)

the only thing you're not covered for is a draw. i havent been nabbed by the draw yet.

There's no safe way of doubling your money, but if you're going to gamble, put say $50 (I'm talking blackjack here), bet only that $50, not your winnings, when that $50 is gone, walk away with profits, works every time, except when you lose, then it doesn't work. But that's never failed for me so meh

The problem here is you're breaking the number one rule of professional gamblers, now i don't know if you're registered with any associations or whatnot, but i know of a set of rules where one of them clearly states to not bet more than the profit, therefore it is not worth the risk to bet on something in high amounts of money, if the return is small, because of the possibility of losing the outlay... now you're just stupid to bet on both teams in the first place, if you're going to win any serious money, you need to bet on something with better odds, such as horse racing, and study the guide so that you know what kind of things to expect...

If you register with a professional punters website they send you out a list of unlucky horses.. this is a good bet for the next week of racing, as it's drawn a bad barrier or got a bad start the week before, but generally are good horses, so the odds are blown out to $10+ and you see yourself with a safe little return

Also
if you're ever betting on Hong Kong races be sure to give the jockeys that are australian the upper hand, if there horse is up there with the favs then pick him

i put $70 on Shane Dyes horse on the weekend for a nice return of $320..

And
if possible.. always bet with the bookies for fixed odds, fluctuations suck

i don't use one particular bookie. except i go with a guy called ray for the place bets.. usually offers the best odds.. buggered if i can remember his last name right now..

if you're going to bet online go for centrebet because you can get fixed odds up to half hour before a race and also sportsbet because you can get the countries best price, rather then just qld or just nsw..etc..

i myself have not fully gotten into online racing mainly because i like seeing the money in my hands but i'm going to be opening accounts in various different sites next week.

i did the betting thingy on keno where u pick a number, if it doesn't come up, pick it again and double the bet. start at $5

first time i did it, it came up when i was at $5, $20 twice, $10 a few times and $40 once, walked away up $125ish

tried it again, got up to $80 and it hadn't come up, was supposed to put $160 on it but bailed, it didn't come up. the number didin't come up 15 TIMES IN A ROW. the odds are like 1 in 100 but that's where they make their money i guess

in conclusion any gambling 'system' is gay and only homos use them

betting on horse racing has a worse return than pokies. with a house advantage of 15% it is very unlikely you will ever find a line that will have a positive expectation unless you are involved in some kind of criminal enterprise.

sportsbet and centrebet both seem to offer pretty good lines for sports.

i just glanced at the AFL ones and they have a house advantage of around ~4.7% which is pretty standard.

it is actually possible to overcome the house advantage on those kind of lines. say you betting on 'even' money (ie 1.91/-110) lines you need to win around > 52.4% to show a profit. this sounds easy but very few people are actually able to do it. that is how good the bookies are.

in comparison if you were wagering on 'even' money lines with a 15% house edge you would need to win > 57.5% of the time to show a profit.

picked up a nice little $85 on "racing to win" the race before the slipper today.. and then i got 3rd on the slipper unfortunatly..
had a few other little wins so all together i'm looking at at least $120
i outlayed $62.. so that's almost double.. although that being said i didn't get more than 5 minutes to read the form guide and put my bets on.. had a very busy day

gambling on lines with long odds is defintely for suckers. for a while i thought the high house advantage on long lines was because the book deliberately created sucker bets. but with competing books this doesn't make much sense because you would expect books to price each other down.

so here is my explanation as to why longer odds have more house advantage:

The first thing to note is that when you place a bet with a bookmaker it effectively creates another bet on the bookmakers side with the reverse odds. For example if you make a bet at 8.5:1 odds for $100 this creates a bet at the bookmaker of $850 at 1:8.5 odds. The next important fact is that these two bets have a different house advantage depending on whether they are expressed in the players bet amount of the bookmakers bet amount.

For example when a player bets on long odds:

Bet A
------
True odds: 9:1

Offered odds (player): 8.5:1
Players wager: $100
Expected loss: (8.5 * 1/10 - 9/10) * 100 = $5
House advantage (player): 5%

Offered odds (bookmaker): 1:8.5
Bookmakers wager: $850
Expected win: (9/10 * 1/8.5 - 1/10) * 850 = $5
House advantage (bookmaker): 0.6%

When a player bets on short odds:

Bet B
-----
True odds: 1:9

Offered odds (player): 1:18
Players wager: $100
Expected Loss: (9/10 * 1/18 - 1/10) * 100 = $5
House advantage (player): 5%

Offered odds (bookmaker): 18:1
Bookmakers wager: $5.56
Expected Win: (1/10 * 18 - 9/10) * 5.56 = $5
House advantage (bookmaker): 90%

The next thing to note is that if the HA in terms of the players bet is the same for a long and short bet then the Kelly criterion fraction is the same. The Kelly criterion fraction represents the fraction of a gamblers cash reserves that he can optimally risk on a wager. This means that the a book can't optimally bet extra on long odd wagers to make up the HA loss compared to short odd wagers.

Bet A
-----

f* = (bp - q)/b
= (1/8.5 * 9/10 - 1/10)/(1/8.5)
= 0.05

Bet B
-----
f* = (bp - q)/b
= (18 * 1/10 - 9/10)/18
= 0.05

-----

So in order to get a decent wager to profit ratio the bookmaker increases the house advantage on longer lines. Which is why stuff like parlays, horse racing and futures bets look like sucker's bets (and probably are sucker's bets).
