Ok here's the deal
I have a retard (who's a regional technician) but thats a story for later, who needs to access files on another computer, which he's got on a network... He's having trouble negotiating with windows file sharing, which is pathetic, but I suspect its something we're going to encounter with other regional folk, so I am trying to find a solution that we can use across the board. Now two boxes, one win2k pro, one xp pro, the 2000 one is configured for a domain, which isn't changing for other reasons. Both pc's can ping each other, so if anyone knows of a program that can help me share files simply for absolute retards I would greatly appreciate it. |

Well if you can't use FTP's, you can't install linux, you can't configure a windows share, wtf can you do?
Just burn the files to CD and carry the CD to the other computer, put it in, and copy the files off the CD using explorer. Maybe get a CD-RW. |

the pc's dont have cdrw half of them are running NT and 2000 all we want is like an inter-network ftp prog, thats not ftp. The reason being we can not access ftp's from our current location for security purposes.
go back to kmart fpot maybe your witty comebacks might be a little more appreciated there. last edited by d[o_0]b at 16:54:50 30/Mar/06 |

i find that window xp doesnt always like it if you try to share files with out running through the file sharing wizard..Try this:
run through the file sharing wizard on an XP machine, at the end it gives you an option to creat a disk make the disk..take it to every PC and run though the wizard..that should fix the issuse..if not, then try to use static IP's if that is posible in your situation..i have had instances where assigning static ip's instead of using DHCP fix the problem |

Ok, how about HTTP? Can you access HTTP? If so, set up IIS on one of the boxes and share the files via HTTP. You can install IIS on any of the servers or XP Pro machines.
Or you could run FTP on a different port? |

all the above solutions (ie install linux!) seem to me to be alot harder than getting 2000 and xp sharing.
have you tried putting in the ip address then the shared folder? \\192.168.0.2\myshare ? you havent really told us what the problem is tho. can you just not see the share in my network? have you tried mapping the drive? is it a credentails problem? have you got file sharing enabled on both pcs? what protocols are you running? last edited by mooby at 19:41:17 30/Mar/06 |
