I'd go for a brand name case rather than just a 'deluxe' cheap and nasty one.

yeah, go for a decent brand name case and power supply, your hardware will love you for it.

I'd say antec for a nice sturdy case with plenty of room. I love mine, apart from it being a bit heavy. How much are you paying for that gfx card?

500W psu, my 400w psu is adequate for now, but apparently some fo the crazier video cards need some uber power pumping

My one question is why the ATA133 hard drive.

The mobo you are looking at supports SATA, and the SATA version of that same maxtor drive is only $3 more expensive, for which you get 150Mbps compared to 133Mbps or 12% more performance.

For that matter, if HDD performance is going to be critical to you (like if you edit video), you could buy two 120G maxtor SATA drives and set them up as a raid 0 array. Same capacity (pretty much), better performance again, and only $50 more than the 250G SATA drive.

Also, what everyone else said about the case. Or if budget is tight, buy a cheap case sans PSU (or sell the one that comes with on eBay), or even recycle an existing case, and buy a better PSU. I recently upgraded and put a thermaltake TR2 430W in the existing case with all the new gear. PSU cost me $55 on special.

I'd swap the ram for Geil but kingston is still good.
Get a different brand video card. Leadtek uses crap capacitors and in 18-36 months the card will have pop caps. Especially if you use a crap PSU.

I'll say the same, only to add that if you buy a Matxor drive now get it in writing that the retailer will cover the warranty with equivilent or better gear should their ability to replace the hdd dries up in the next 12 months - which is now a reality thanks to Seagate

as Dodgy said - get better ram. You're using onboard sound - you're gonna find yourself OC-ing to compensate for that crappy onboard and it's overhead soon enough. Geil makes it nice n easy ;)

Leadtek WinFast PX6800GS 256MB SLi PCI-E

why is it still legal to sell this crap in Au these days? don't we have some kind of standards organisation that stops this happing to consumers?

Deluxe ATX Mid

jump over to www.rpc1.org and update the firmware. great drive, it just doesn't come the way ya need out of the box :/

check your mobo bios on delivery too.

Google your psu. You need more than a generic 'Deluxe ATX Mid' will offer.

I'm wondering how you were able to achieve this combo :/ Most retailer's online stores have systems running in the background making impossible combos of hardware incapable of generating thru to the point of a quote on price now.

I agree Leadtek = Crap! You will be sorry! I threw 45 mx440’s out that all died of leaking capacitor disease and amazingly enough were just out of warranty. I had a picture of them all but I can’t seem to find it.

If you can afford it get the Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI instead. It is faster and more stable than the Asus.
Also get the Samsung SpinPoint 250GB 7200RPM SATAII NCQ to go with it.
I also recommend the Antec TruePower 2.0 480W PSU.
Lots of money, where does it stop?:)

I'd get an x2 unless you want to wait for the new cpu's.

i agree with the two above statements, gigabyte ga-k8nxp-sli (although if you are only going to be running 1 pci-e video card an nforce4 ultra chipset board will suit you better)

also x2 chips rip it up in pcu intensive programs, etc

leadtek video cards suck for the cooling, many people may disagree but with asus having 3 years warranty and rather pleasing cooling rather than the basic reference coolers that many leadtek cards have it puts them a step ahead

plus with the case get a nice coolermaster centurion

As a service tech who replaces s*** components all day I would recommend reconsidering on Maxtor and Leadtek, from what I have seen both brands would be up pretty high in the brands that fail the most.

I would drop the RAM to 1024. You will get a performance hit really going with that much. Unless you need 2GB of RAM, there is no point. There is too much memory to address or what ever :p
