Click on the Crytek HD Tech Demo, if you don't want to stream it theres a direct link on the right side of the pop window.

testing direct link

Definately worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet. The dynammic day/night transition and volumetric clouds look very very cool, the only thing in the video i thought looked average was the truck on fire.

Burning truck was indeed pretty average, but I'll play it just for the tasty tasty clouds.

Wake me up when they have them in a Quake sequel that doesn't blow dongs

Seriously though, if those faces at the end were that realistic from other angles and in other lighting conditions, etc, that would be pretty cool - seeing them speak will be interesting as well - skin has been a pretty hard thing for game developers to get right it seems, it always looks shiny and lame

You guys played Far Cry with the newish HDR patch? Adds an incredible amount of atmosphere. Looking up through the swaying palms into an evening sky, you get this glowing through the gaps between the leaves, and when you turn away it feels just like your eyes having to adjust.

Really cool I reckon. Far Cry was a top game that just ran out of steam a little towards the end. But some of the levels, like the one where you have to blow a series of radar towers, were just incredible.

If the Far Cry dudes for this new title can just fix a few of Far Cry's issues, (eg. AI pathing) and put it together with some fantastic graphical effects, they will have a brilliant game on their hands.

HDR was implemented in Patch 1.3 well over a year ago afaik. The "newish" patch merely lets you have AA on at the same time, whereas before you couldn't have both on at the same time.

In my opinion, Far Cry's HDR is dongs. The colours, intensity and contrast just feel wrong compared to a much better HDR implementation by Valve in their Source engine (disclaimer: I still hate Valve).

Perhaps they have fixed things up in the current CryEngine .. but we'll see.

Far Cry has a small but steady group of multiplayer gamers which I'm always surprised and impressed about. Anyone played it online recently? The out of the box release was crap, but they've extended it nicely (by the looks of the feature list, anyway) and I'm wondering if it plays much better.

Yeah that's true, though they've made some improvements to it. Far Cry's HDR is quite acceptable outdoors I reckon, though it's not so good when inside (but then, Far Cry's indoor levels aren't that good full stop). There are a lot of settings to tweak to choose your preferred look, and I'm impressed with the mode 2 rendering which has a good balance of effects and framerate impact.

I haven't played the Lost Coast HL2 map, so can't make comparisons with HL2's implementation. Besides, if Crytek's implementation is indeed a year older than Valve's, you'd hope they'd make an improvement...

I bought a copy from Dick Smith for $28 a month ago.

It's still selling for that price (DVD version). Might be worth checking out!

I used to play it heaps on GA, this was during the horrible bugs stage. I loved the f*** out of their attack/defence gameplaymode with the engineer class, that was amazing. But I eventualy got sick of playing it, wasn't fun to play a 25 min round one side, and then have the game end 5 mins later as the other side :)

I have two copies of the game. one that I bought (CD version) and another one (DVD Version)that came with some hardware I bought recently. Might fire it up again, as orbitor mentioned the HDR was certainly an awesome effect. I only just got to play round with the first release of that before going SLI and upgrade path. Might see how she plays now with HDR on the new rig.

If anyone wants the CD version drop me a line.

Looking at the nice volumetric clouds it might not be such a bad engine to make a flight sim on, those aerial shots do look pretty schwweet.

A another video has been posted, this time showing off some nice looking water in the game on the xbox360... hopefully there will be some decent splashing effects added as well before it's released.

34Mb... Warning though, it was a very slow download.
