What a load of bulls*** this ad is.
The entire point if the ad is to prove that speeding kills. If any of you have done a safey driving course you would know that that whole event could have been easily avoided with no injuries. Even though he was doing 10km/h over the limit, he turned OFF THE ROAD and ran into the mother and child. If he had done a saftey driving course he could have hit the car infront directly causing only car damage, possibly a write off, but at least no one would have been killed. Things like this can be avoided by the government and DOT if they werent such money hungry f*****s. Instead of spending 2 million dollars on brand new commodores that only are only good for one thing, which is revenue rasing, they could spend the money on DRIVER TRAINING COURSES and improve the licencing system thus make it safer for experienced driveres already on the road. It's also a known (according to wheels) that only 1 out of 10 car accidents causing injury or death are from speeding. /rant. |

Yes but it is quite simple to argue that even from the shock factor alone may save 5 peoples lives, and is therefore justified.

Do you really find it strange that they are campaigning against stupid driving practice at the time of year when there are the most accidents? Who'd a thunk it!?!?!? |

It's also a known (according to wheels) that only 1 out of 10 car accidents causing injury or death are from speeding. Ahh yes, wheels magazine, the unbiased authority on motor vehicle safety. I dare say they have a vested interest in downplaying the amount of harm done by speeding, as it's a past time enjoyed by most of their readers. |

i can't stand that ad, its alright first time, but after that it gives me the chills.
And ofcourse if a car stops suddently infront of you... are you going to just hit it.. or are you going to try and turn out of the way? natural instinct is to turn duder, i doubt the driver would have even seen the lady |

I think that they believe those 10 % of accidents caused by speed can be avoided if people stop speeding! There is a point to the advertisement i believe, speeding is something that can be avoided easily! Don't do it.
Although i agree with an increase in driver training and maybe compulsory special courses before you are given an open licence, that is something that will help reduce the other 90 % of accidents. But do not go around saying most accidents are not caused by speed therefore the ads are a waste of time. Ever thought maybe the ads are doing there job in the first place and that is why a reduced a number of accidents are caused by speed? The financial cost is justified. last edited by Tiny at 19:35:47 28/Dec/05 |

Consider that if it were safe to go 10-20 km/h over a speed limit then they
probably would have set the speed limit to that I'm sick of seeing young drivers tailgate and weave on busy highways because they not only think that they are safe at that speed, but that others doing the speed limit should haul arse to get out of their way My advice, as someone who has caused a minor car accident (no injuries) is, everyone thinks he is a cool and safe driver until he has his first accident. Some morons still don't learn after even that |

I've been driving at least 25000kms a year (prolly like a million this year) since 2000 and am yet to have an accident, and have frequently driven over the speed limit. It may shock you, but some drivers actually are better than others. Its not the fact that they are speeding that is bad, its a fact they a)they can't control the car (which means they shouldn't be driving at any speed) or b) they are speeding in a totally stupid situation that puts others in danger. |

Luck does not make you a better driver
Some systems (such as safe road transit) simply function best when the behaviour of everyone is predictable, this may mean that some individuals may not get to their destinations a few seconds earlier but it's for the good of everyone, so suck it in. Obviously I'm not talking about stuff like cruising a few ks over the limit on an empty highway or s*** like that |

i think this is the point u still get booked for that. 10k over isnt dangerous drivin ,its just easier to fine people for it. there is some really bad drivers out there that dont look, indicate, pay attenion, and use mobile phones etc .but think they r safe drivers cause they stick to the speed limit. if u think every1 doin the 60 instead of 70 means big reductions in road deaths your a "bloody idiot" |

because some people are s***ty drivers (don't indicate, check mirrors, etc) it is okay for you to speed? even if you are a cautious and attentive driver, going the speed limit when everyone else is, is about suitability to the road conditions, and about each driver being able to judge his decisions based upon rightful assumptions of how all the other drivers will behave for instance, the valuable time window between checking all of the mirrors, indicating, and changing lanes is often reduced to an unacceptably small length when some lamer is speeding down the lane you want to change into, on a winding road |

Every K over is a thriller.
Some cars stop fasters than others. Know how much space is required for your car to come to a emergency stop. If you know your car can't stop that fast. Don't speed in congested areas. Accidents are just that, accidents. Hunter is a prime example of that. Running over a lady pushing a pram in a suburbia street is going over board imo. If some of us were faced with that situation, I'm sure we wouldn't run up a foot path with people on it. =\ It's a stupid and sensless ad. Scare tactics FTL. last edited by EniGma at 04:25:35 29/Dec/05 |

well tryin to make people who do 10k over the speed limit look like baby killers doesnt make the road safer.
i nearlly hit a lady with a pram a few yrs ago ,dumb bitch was crossing a 4 lane rd just on the other side of a hill ,i had no way of seeing her .A set of lights 100m away she was just to farken lazy to cross the road safely.but u cant fine people for stupidity ,be alot of poor people out there if we could. |

I just wish people wouldnt assume they are sik drivers because they have never caused an accident
Yes you are probably right that those ads were targeted at drink driving - but the end result of a speeding related crash (including as an antecedent to accidents caused by other vehicles doing the correct speed because they were taken by surprise by speeding drivers) is pretty much the same as a drink driving related one |

Now count up all the accidents that really matter, where people are seriously injured or killed, and then ask if speeding had anything to do with it. |

its easy to choose to go onto the foothpath rather than run up some guys arse.
basicallyu from that view he had no way of knowing ppl were on the foothpath and it was a subconcious decision that im sure most of us would make, if we were put in that position |

i've given up on speeding..... except when i'm running late speeding doesnt really get you there any faster you know Short of knowing the sequence of every single traffic light and the flow of traffic between your home and your destination, chances are youll only save 5 minutes off the average cross town run. Even if you do, theres the time you take parking, getting all your s*** together and walking from the car to wherever you wanna be. No real benefit other than the good times. imo. |
