anyone heard good/bad stuff about these? I think it's time to upgrade my old ti4200 & want something that plays cs nice (cs lol) and will also run whatever games may come out next year.

Also if anyone knows of any incompatibility issues with those video cards and an asus P4C800 Deluxe motherboard I'd like to know. My ti4200 won't run in either of my other 2 pc's, it just makes them shut down and start beeping frantically.

According to PCPP, you should just wait a little while and get an x1600, slightly better performance at a slightly lower price.

Edit: My bad, wasn't paying attention to your MOBO. To be honest I wouldn't bother buying a new AGP card atm. I'm currently using a fx5900 and I want to upgrade, but I'm gonna wait till I can afford to upgrade to PCIe (along with new mobo, cpu etc T_T). Upgradability FTW.

IMHO, I'd buy a second hand cheapy upgrade (like a 9800pro) to last till you can afford a full upgrade.

i have a x800 pro vivo flashed to XT PE (520/560) hasent slowed down on any game to date, id say x800XL/x800 Pro/x800 Pro vivo (flash to 16 pipes) ftw, compatibity wise will be fine with a i875. 8-)

I've got an Asus X800 Pro AGP card and it kicks some serious ass all over the place. I bought mine when it was $700 about 5 or 6 months back, so I'm guessing they should be fairly cheap now.

Damn awesome card.

yeah I don't need a whole new pc, that's the thing. I'm not going to go buying a whole new motherboard/cpu/ram when there's nothing at all wrong with the stuff I have and I don't see why I should. I can afford to buy a whole new pc right now but I'm not going to.

thanks for your input rev, how does it go in hl2/cs and quake3/4? does it prefer valve games over id or was that just a viscious rumour? I looked at some review or other but I reckon half of those are biassed.

Well, I'm running a 2800XP chip and I've played thru Q4, HL2 and COD2 with no problems. BF2 plays fine as well although in single player it does chug a bit on the big maps on my machine. Apart from that the card is awesome.

Quake 4 plays sad on any ati hardware, tho been improvments with lastest drivers with open gl, cs source however really owns on ati cards, i get like 60 to 180 fps on 1024x786 high no aa no af, but only play on lans online is gay, Q4 online pwns thank god i have a Intel box with 6600GT for that.

Q4 / OpenGL Nvidia owns

Source / D3D Ati owns

PS. I love you to whoop. 8-)

^^ sure it run fine on my x800 also but the fact is that nvidia cards run 20-30 precent faster with it says something. 8-)

Upgradability FTW.
So he should go overkill on mobo now, so it will be out of date by the time he does his next upgrade?

sorry, I only included rev there because I was tired, and he has the same card I'm looking at but your advice is also appreciated. I know ATI sux for quake stuff and ATI owns for cs/hl stuff, that's what it said in the review as well. As the only game these days I play seems to be cs (tried others, cbf, keep going back to cs coz that's where all my e-friends are). I'm an nvidia fanboy btw, last 2 cards been nvidia so me getting an ati card is a big step hehe :)

thank god i have a Intel box with 6600GT for that.

you also raise a question, would it hypothetically run better if I had an AMD cpu/nforce mobo running the same speed as my intel thing? I guess I'm asking does nvidia work best with intel and ati with amd or don't the video cards really care what hardware they're paired with as long as it's not yum cha $2 motherboard + cyrix cpu :p

I think you will find graphics cards dont care what cpu they run but having said that my amd 64 3200+ is a lot faster then my P4 3.2 with i865pe with the 6600GT agp, so yer amd ftw with gaming imho. 8-)
