Hello QGLers. I recently purchased a Nintendo DS since their game library got a whole lot better. I got my hands on Mario Kart and Animal Crossing and I'm having a heap of fun playing both. http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/5104/920786608802oz.jpg If you ever playing animal crossing for the gamecube then you would find this game to be very similar. It's another example of wacky nintendo making more non-conventional games. The online features is what sets it apart from the cube version and with someones friend code you can enter their town and steal all their fruit and send them ransom letters. http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/4827/920788608773po.jpg If you don't know about the mario kart franchise then you shouldn't be posting on QGL. This is another great reincarnation and for all you old school people it includes a large number of tracks from the SNES, N64, Gameboy and Gamecube versions. I have played this multiplayer over wireless an it's a ton of fun. Does anyone else have these games? Enjoying them/hate them/comedy LOL PSP is better? |

I grabbed the MarioKart DS pack a few days ago. Been having a lot of fun single player but desperate to get some multi action. Not a huge number of games out that grab my attention enough to warrant $50+ - I'd pay maybe half that for Mario64, Tony Hawk, Metroid Pinball and Viewtiful Joe, but even second hand ebay prices dont seem to be going very low. Eagerly awaiting MP:Hunters though.
Where'd you play wireless, Thundercracker? I'm on a wired LAN and it seems the only access points in Aus are at EB stores - sif bf to go stand in there to play. I don't as of yet have $50 to splurge on the Nintendo wireless USB adapter >:( |

Animal Crossing is awesome. As is Mario Kart DS. If anyone is a Fan of SNES Mario Kart, its recommended to pick this one up. With "Retro" cup, bringing courses from the gba/gcn/snes/n64 versions + original DS courses.
Also, Sonic Rush, if anyone is a fan of sonic, get this fkn version!! f***ing fast. Awesome use of the 2nd screen, and the Bosses are in a nice Cel Shaded 3D Pseudo effect too. Very nice! If you like Tony Hawk, and dont mind Cel Shading, get that too. Animal Crossing/Mario Kart DS/Tony Hawk PS (DS) are awesome on WiFi. Not bad considering all you need is a current broadband connection and a wireless router. Or a simple hotspot. Also puts re-playability into games. So far i haven't experience lag, playing against people in Japan AND America. Haven't tried anyone in europe. Although that is me with a wifi spot at home. Haven't tried a WiFi spot anywhere else ie. McDonalds/Starbucks etc. |

Yeah, I picked up the Mario Kart pack too, bargin for the price. I was pretty disappointed with the last couple of MK games, but this ones alot better, especially the old school SNES maps they have in there, most excellent.
I had a quick try playing over the net through my wireless access point at home, which was good fun. Im looking forward to picking up a copy of Advance Wars, and possibly the Sonic game too. |

Too poor to do it, but I'd get a DS for Sonic Rush and MKDS alone. Why the hell aren't there any good RPGs on the system yet?

Is sonic out for DS here yet?
Also, Canvas Curse and Advance Wars both rock, but I suck at Advance Wars :( |

Mario Kart DS is awesome. It's almost as good as the original SNES version (which I guess is prolly due to the retro tracks and whatnot).
If we have enough people, we should do an online tourney. I just need to get my wireless sorted. |

So far I have just played with some mates on LAN. I would like to check out to see if my wifi connection works sometime but I think its having problems. Time to go searching for troubleshooting guides.
RE RPGs, there is very little at the moment. The DS library only recently started to pick up. No doubt the more popular gameboy RPG franchises will get released for the DS. I have a released date list lying around somewhere. Not sure if sonic has been released. Nintendo seem to be quite quick at releasing the games in AU though. Animal Crossing came out about 5 days after the US. last edited by Thundercracker at 19:46:52 17/Dec/05 |

Sonic rush is out in Australia.
No doubt the more popular gameboy RPG franchises will get released for the DS.You mean the only decent RPG series that ever got released for the GBA and wasn't a port, Golden Sun? The first megaman battle network was good, but the series was subsequently killed. I bought a GBA almost purely for the promised rebirth of the SNES RPG era, so I'm a little bitter on this subject to say the least :( |

I got a DS about a month ago and I'm loving it. The only games I have at the moment are Nintendogs and Animal Crossing and they're both loads of fun. Nintendogs is kinda lacking in lastability though, it gets old fast if it's your only game. I'm eagerly awaiting MKDS, and I'm gonna get it for Christmas. The only other games I'm really chomping at the bit for at the moment are Metroid Prime Hunters and the Final Fantasy III remake. If you're awaiting some RPG glory for the DS, looks like FFIII will deliver. They're putting a lot of work in to it, and the few screen shots I have seen were HAWT. I haven't heard anything about an Aussie release of it, and I don't relish the thought of trying to follow an FF story in Japanese @_@

^ is the site down?
Also has anyone got either a Play-Yan or a Movie Player? I'm tossing up between the two - SD cards and CF cards seem to be about the same price, but I'd like to know how the video/audio quality etc compares. last edited by evinco at 22:49:33 19/Dec/05 |

I was gonna buy either Movie Player or Play-Yan, until I found out they both don't sit flush in the cartridge slot. They kinda stick out a bit. I'm just gonna wait till one that fits flush in the slot comes out.

Yeh, the Movie Player sticks out a bit far, but what about the Play-Yan Micro?

The play yan isn't too bad. I think that would still annoy me though. It would still stick out that little bit and keep catching when I put it in my pants or took it out. The flash2advance is flush, and they reckon future software updates will allow for video playback. I guess time will tell on that one.

I have a GBAMPv2 and M3 perfect, dont use them for movie playing though, just homebrew and stuff yaknow ;)
MKDS and AC:WW are both very awesome and addictive. I'm a MK veteran from the SNES era and thouroughly enjoy this version :). Been using my DS a lot lately.. If someone wants to buy my GBAMPv2 I may sell it, as I have flashed my DS firmware and the M3 handles everything I need. I don't think the actual movie quality is that great, you have to convert to its own format with dodgy software, as they are chinese made devices, but I think the Play Yan (or the new version coming out) is official nintendo product and is decent also, for the person asking about cheap games, I recommend www.dvdcrave.com.au ..I usually import my US GCN games from dvdboxoffice (nothing since RE4 and nothing new until Zelda), but I bought METEOS (which every DS owner should own) from there and its pretty cheap. This was a few months ago too, as I think meteos only just came out here..pretty long delay. anyway ds is a really cool system and has some great games on it and a lot coming. great to see nintendo getting active in the online arena too. |
