"There were no explosives," he said after the dead man's backpack was detonated shortly after the shooting Except for the exploding backpack that is. |

Not going anywhere near the U.S. but this type of thing makes all airports in the world a little "edgy" and slows procedures up no-end.

As they damn well should have imo. The twat was running from the plane, and yelling he had a bomb. It doesn't matter his wife was yelling he was mentally ill, the marshals would have had to make a decision in a split second: whether to gamble the safety of everyone on board and not shoot - or kill him to neutralise the threat. I think the marshals made the right decision. Would suck to be a marshal if they thought he was a crazy twat but he turns around and kills innocent people. They have to take all the threats seriously cause even though that crazy dude probably didn't deserve to die, the random bystanders don't deserve it either.

i dont understand why they just dont use taser guns. they will neutralise the "threat", but also keep the people alive.

Did anyone else hear the report on the radio this morning where they were making out like it was un-necessary force because the plane was still on the runway and hadn't taken off yet? That made no sense to me, are bomb threats less important if the plane isn't in the air of something? Is it less of a disaster if a few hundred people blow up on the runway instead of while in flight? Crazy!

He wasn't in the plane when he was shot, he was on the runway running towards the terminal.

He wasn't in the plane when he was shot, he was on the runway running towards the terminal. Ah ok, the report I heard made it sound like he was running down the inside of the plane. Either way, still not like the marshalls had much of a choice, if he ran inside and blew up the terminal I'm sure it still wouldn't be a good thing. |

Yeah, sue the Government because a guy with mental illness didn't take his medication. Don't take responsibility or nothing, just blame everyone else. Its not the unmedicated crazy guy's fault, its the air marshalls' fault because they wanted to save innocent people from being blown up! Of course, I see it now! Damn those air marshalls.
Geez, what next? People suing McDonalds because they ate too much junk and got fat? Oh yeah... |

Tasers have amazingly short range, are pretty lame if the person is wearing thick clothes or some sort of body armour, have a very small shot capacity and you have very little options if something goes wrong. Tradition guns on the other hand are much more effective in all of these cases. In sort, tazers are for pussies. Guns are for men. I heard that the man's wife was running along behind him screaming "he's mentally ill" etc While he was screaming "I have a bomb in my bag and I am going to set it off!" then he starts reaching inside his bag. Imagine the f***fest that would have happened if the air marshall didn't shoot him and he really did have a bomb? |

Excellent work by the air marshalls. Do you know how hard it is to hit something that is moving let alone accurately in a crowded environment? I wouldnt like to try that's for sure. They must have been awesome shots.
Also bombs going off anywhere near avgas is a no-no...big boom. Also this might be a deterrent those f***nuts that are full of piss and 'joke' they have a bomb in their bag ect...on planes. The sister in law use to fly for Qantas for years and she tells me the number of times c*******s made that joke was ridiculous. last edited by Psycho! at 10:05:44 10/Dec/05 |
