I couldn't find any threads about this but was wondering what people thought. I went to see this on Friday and was surprised (and relieved) that there wasn't a horde of kids going to see it - then I found out afterwards that it was actually rated M, which I didn't notice.

(Unfortunately my glee at not being surrounded by little kids was quickly wiped out when I found out there are worse things than little kids in cinemas - punk-ass dips*** kids in medium-sized groups trying to outdo each other in cleverness by being general purpose jerks. Also, there was some f*** with a laser pointer. People STILL f***ing take these things to cinemas?)

Oh yeh, the movie. Anyway, I was a little disappointed. I'm not a die hard Potter fan; I've only recently read the books and while I don't think they're all that I still found them enjoyable and getting more so as the series progressed. The Goblet of Fire was really the first big one, so its not really suprising that they struggled trying to fit a lot of stuff into the 2.5 hour long movie - lots of it felt rushed.

A stack of stuff was glossed over and some parts of the plot completely removed (like Winky the Stupid House Elf), which had me confused at the start. The effects were pretty decent, and thankfully we didn't have to sit through another frickin' Quidditch game.

Also, the character of Dumbledore seemed totally wack - I don't remember in detail what he was like in the book of the Goblet, but he's totally not the calm, twinkly-eyed, reserved, thoughtful ninja that he is in the last books. He's hopped up on goofballs!

I found the movie to be extremely average. I've never read the books but this movie seemed to be all over the place and felt like everything was rushed to get to the ending. I liked the first three movies but I don't think I could sit thru this one again.

Also, glad you had a good time at the cinema, trog. That's one of the reasons I don't bother going anymore. If there was some type of security set up that would smite down people who constantly talk thru the movie then I'd see stuff more often.

Yeh, I would have been PISSED if I'd paid full price, but fortunately my student card still worked (despite having expired like 2 weeks earlier, and despite the person who took my money actually taking the card off me and giving it a close look, wtf)

using expired student cards?? you sir, are a thief and a villian

(for those of you signing up to uni, put your end date 10 years later than when you expect to finish) then when they print and give you yuor student card now expiring in 2020 you can go to the office and change it to what it really should be)

I totally agree that the movie was all over the place, AND it skipped so much, AND it changed the story from the book AND they so could have made it into 2 movies and a thousand times better, AND give me my money back >:(

i think its a very poor movie, done increadibly poorly,

specially the last task. and all the little side things that make the movie/books that much more interesting and gives the movies / books substance.

Reading IMDB trivia they apparently were going to do it as two books but decided to squeeze it into one.

I hadn't read the book before seeing it (I've only just started now) but I enjoyed it. I agree that it felt fairly rushed and that it seemed like Grade 4 was basically a big tournament for everybody (sif enter, I'd just bum around and do SFA).

Indro also sucks - when I saw it there weren't many kids but we managed to sit behind a bunch of girls who wouldn't shut up about the guy who plays Harry Potter. I know plenty of nerds who have bad hair and glasses and you don't see them being rated!

Why didnt u just tell them to shut up?

I had about 8 teenage s***s in the aisle behind me making noise. Turned round, told them to shut the f*** up, no more problems.

Yeah the old Dumbledore (the dude who died) was much much better. He had the perfect calm voice and everything. This new Dumbledore sucks. Too hyper, and he really isn't the character from the books at all. He looked scared/jumped back at the goblet of fire spitting out names ffs! The real Dumbledore wouldn't be scared of something so small.

The movie was okay, but I agree they missed so much important stuff. Even just basic character development of some of the bigger characters later on in the series. True it would have been impossible to fit in everything from the book, but they could have cut out alot of the fancy crap that made the movie glossy and put more important stuff in.

He or she obviously wanted your body. If someone did that to me, I'd be asking for their phone number. It's like 1+1=2.

thought the movie was great. easily the best of the four. i agree that it seemed rushed but they only had 2.5 hrs to work with for such a large book. as for the way dumledore was protrayed, i would blame it more on the director than the actor.

An M Rating is still only 15 years old... Thats grade what? 10? Still kids to me.

Anyway the books and movies are marketed to sixteen year old girls...

Agreed they did a botched job on character development. I found it a bit rushed as well - I would've loved to have seen how the other 3 retrieved their eggs and also the pro quiddich game at the start but i'm guessing that woulda cost heaps more money.

i haven't read any of the books and only saw the first 2 movies not the third. so missing parts of the book I wouldn't notice. However, I was dragged to this on Saturday and it teased me with the potential of being good, but just wasn't.

There was some decent layby spoot which helped, but it just went nowhere and sort of finished without finishing. That pissed me off as i didn't want to go in the first place.

the new dumbledore guy completely sucked, he didn't even talk like the old one and had a freakin american accent!

Agreed the movie was average too. Why skip the other kids trial against the dragons and the other good stuff (im guessing as I refuse to read the books), only to spend time attempting some lame grief scenes at the end for that Cedric guy without developing his character first. I didnt give a rats arse if he lived or died.

I felt like they wasted the time padding out useless crap and glossing over things that could have made the movie alot better.

in the books u never see how the other champions beat the dragons. ron just tells harry what they did in a couple of sentences. anyway i think the ending focused more on omg voldemort is back rather than omg cedric is dead. the guy that played cedrics dad did an awsome job.

i agree with you completely Trog, so much of it was just missed, some altered (like Neville giving him the gillyweed not Dobby) and i was soo pissed off at how s*** the new Dumbledore is, i mean he yells on like 5 different occasions, and even pushes harry against something, dumbledore doesnt do that he doesnt lose his temper J.K emphasises that so much, he is such a calm cool motherf***er.

Considering how main a character Dumbledore becomes over the next two books if he remains how he is for the next movie/movies (depending if the decide to make number 6) he will ruin the movie entirely.

it's harry potter ...

why are people expecting it to be awesome exactly?

yes it could have been better, but no, not by much; maybe 6/10 instead of 5. either everyone is starved for a good story, or they just have low standards from what i can see.

Yes, The new HP movies lack the magic that Christopher Colombus brought to the first one. The plot was to obvious as they glossed out alot of detail quite relevant to creating a well rounded goblet of fire experience.

The effects were very impressive and I can understand how hard it would have been to mash that massive book into one movie, So i can half understand why alot of relevant detail was missing.

You do realise that the actor playing Dumbledore was following a script dont you? I doubt he would have been allowed to play the character how he would have wanted. If you want to complain talk to the director or producers.

I completely forgot about Dobby and Winky in that book. I was upset they left out the actual Quidditch World Cup :( That was my favourite part of the book!
In all I liked it, but they did cut alot out. Id hate to see what they do when they start filming for the 5th book...

michael goldenberg is the scriptwriter for ootp. he might try to copy kloves or just do whatever the hell he likes. he wrote the scripts for Peter Pan, Contact, Bed of Roses.

So long as he doesnt veer too far away from the actual book Im cool with whatever. It sucks when you read a book then go watch a movie and want to scream "Thats NOT in the BOOK!" and hurl tables at the screen.

I'm a big fan of the books and all the other movies did the books justice, but this last one was completly shiiiait.
The portrail of Victor Krum and And Fleu was f***ing horse s***, fleu was suppost to be hell hot and victor was suppost to be this gangly duck footed c*** not a machine. AND HERMIONIES DRESS IS BLUE AT THE BALL NOT f***ING PINK! I MEAN WTF.
Seriously dissapointed with it.

Movie was very very average.

Only thing that made it bearable was the guy who played SlightlyDerangedEye - Moody. What a lunatic.

Just came back from seeing it with my 9yr old son. He liked it but then again he hasn't read any of the books. I sat there in disbelief at what the actor was doing to Dumbledores character, then again he was under directors instructions I guess. Totally lost the calm 'magic' of Richard Harris's Dumbledore..and I know, I know, its hard to put everything into a movie from a books adaption but ffs some of the stuff they left out was quite relevant to the plot development for the Order of the Phoenix.

I hope to hell they get Chris Columbus back in the future, actually I reckon this might be a bit wierd but I reckon Tim Burton could give it a injection of his eye for the surreal.

Yeah, but if Tim Burton did it then he'd have to include Johnny Depp as well, like he does with most of his movies. I reckon Peter Jackson would be alright and his attention to detail would be alot better.

it's jk rowling's fault dumbledore is starting to seem like a worried old coj. like in book five where he's talking about how he had made a mistake in his old age and put harry through even more hurt than he would have if he had of just been told everything from the beginning.

as a writer myself, i reckon it's highly likely jk rowling just writes herself into corners and then goes with the easy way out. like the dumbledore thing, it was like 'old wise and mr untouchable seems to have made a mistake because i didn't want to tell the readers until now why voldermort wants harry dead, how can that be explained? dumbledore can't possibly make a mistake but he obviously should've been truthful with harry straight up; i have to show some intelligence here and work in a brilliant plot point ... thinking ... thinking ... ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ... ah forget it, i'll just say he made a mistake and put it down to senility.'

imo, she should've continued his god-like persona and given a decent reason for not telling harry why voldermort wanted him dead earlier, and to do that, she'd also have to give a decent reason why voldermort wants him dead anyway. honestly, a prophecy? (yet another easy way out). so really it should've gone more like:

"harry is one of the last remaining members of voldermort's family, he and one other are all that stand in the way of voldermort's rise to absolute power. having stumbled across this secret, dumbledore immediately confronts harry of its existence, and realising the potential power voldermort could gain, dumbledore vows to protect harry at whatever cost, teaching him the most unique and exclusive of spells, preparing for the final showdown against the deatheaters."

but, i guess there's a lot of pressure on her, so maybe she just didn't have time to come up with something a little more interesting.

dice that sounds f***en retarded. harry part of voldemorts family? lol wtf u on man. dumbledore didnt tell harry why voldemort wants him dead because hes old? didnt dd say that he wanted to wait until harry was older to tell him?

it's jk rowling's fault dumbledore is starting to seem like a worried old coj.

no idea what u are on about there. the movies and the books are totally different. in the movie dd is all agressive and physical with harry, the opposite of book dd.

yeah look at why he's aggressive ... it's so obvious he's frazzled and scared, which is why i said he's looking worried. in the books, dd is an all-knowing type, therefore nothing can touch him emotionally, therefore even aggression is taken as a weakness

and wtf is wrong with you, you think a prophecy that could mean harry is going to kill voldermort thus he has to kill him asap is better? you suck.

also, yes, dd didn't tell harry coz he wanted to wait until he was older, but if you go read it again, you'll note that dd also says something like 'i kept on telling myself i'll do it next year, but then when the time came, i said i'd do it the year after ... it seems in my old age and not wanting to see you get hurt, i have ended up putting you in great danger.'
