SEATTLE--In a move that could rankle privacy advocates, Microsoft said Monday that it is adding the PC equivalent
of a flight data recorder to the next version of Windows, in an effort to better understand and prevent computer crashes. http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588-568...tml?tag=nl.e589 |

Unbroken link: Article
There's nothing to worry about. Features are being pulled from Longhorn so quickly and often that at release it'll be nothing but a bootloader, much less information gatherer. |

Also, such reporting will also be anonymous. how the hell can it be anonymous if it sends all your data such as the contents of programs that you were using. What if it sends your fkn credit card number or something? yeah gg It says it's up to the individual though how much gets sent so I suppose at least that part is ok. |

Yes Microsoft are going to move into the credit card fraud business.
Why the f*** is everyone so concerned about privacy? Do you really think MS gives a s*** that you do number 3's over gay porn? |

Cool. Will this be on par with their efforts to "hide" errors by setting Windows XP to automatically reboot if it encounters a serious hardware/software error and not to actually blue screen?

Whatever helps make software better is a step in the right direction.
If you are so worried about something logging your every move then you shouldnt use windows and you sure as hell shouldnt use linux untill youve been through every peice of kernal code and app code and compiled it yourself. |

You mean they haven't gathered enough information from the millions of reports they would have received by now to fix problems - they need more? Whats the point of sending information to MS when programs crash now?

Whats the point of sending information to MS when programs crash now? The difference is that a black box records a bunch of stuff about what was happening before, during and after a crash; while what happens currently is only after an application crashes. Using the airline black box concept, is it any good to only monitor systems after the plan has hit the ground? |
