If you value your hands, don't ever be a brickies labourer. You'd wanna be pretty fit too, labourers are typically treated like s*** so if you can't keep up don't expect any sympathy from your boss.
The best place to get labouring work would probably be in a warehouse doing stacking and packing as you're not out in the sun all day and it would be less stressful than working on a building site. |

Unskilled labour is arse :S
I did holiday work in a plastics extruding factory for a month and a bit. Had to get up at 5am everyday to make it over to the northside. Stood around all day at the end of the conveyor belt and stacked and wrapped whatever plastic s*** was coming out for 8 hours with a 30 min break for lunch. It was hot, dirty and loud (had earplugs). I made 3 grand but I was damn glad when it had finished! f*** doing that full time, I'd seriously die! |

I did holiday work in a plastics extruding factory for a month and a bit. Had to get up at 5am everyday to make it over to the northside.By any chance was that job at Geebug and was it at a place called PPC (IIRC). If so, I actually applied for an IT job there about 3 years ago. f***ers lined up an interview then at the last minute rescheduled it and I never heard from them again. Oh well their loss and probably would've been a s*** job anyway. EDIT: Doh. Beaten: Naw kaygen it was Marley Plastics up near the airport, i forget which suburb its actually in. The suburb you're thinking of is probably Eagle Farm (or could've been toombul, nundah, pinkenba or god knows what else), and I think I know the place you're talking about last edited by sikgem at 15:14:26 29/Oct/04 |

i watch those poor c***s like everyday, it's the second worst labourors job ever, behind brickying, and maybe the roof guys(in summer). but they don't really have labourors, depends what sort. the roof tilers have have s*** kickers sometimes, but they don't really get up on the roof until they know what they are doing

I've worked in contreting and concrete and aggregate testing.
Its not too bad when it isn't hot. Otherwise its hard sweaty work, but I was clearing over a grand a week and this was 5 years ago. Makes you fit as hell also. And f***s your hands hardcore, buy some girly hand cream if you value your skin. |

It's because you get the old c***s that have been doing it for years giving you a hard time for being soft. You don't even need a decent pair of gloves, just a $10 pair of leather gloves from coles or woolies work fine but you definitely need a pair otherwise your hands will be torn to s*** at the end of your first day.

I've done a few months here and there over the years as a brickies labourer. It's a great job. f***ing hard work but you feel good at the end of the day and are pumped for the new days work in the morning.
Not to mention the the good it does for your body and the undeniable thirst you have for beer at the end of the day! |

All the ads and pamplets you find in the Northside Chronicle or the other lacal rags are done by us. We also sort/strap/stack other promo s*** to get carted off to other places. Now and then you get to f*** off in the van and deliver big stacks of newspapers to peoples houses around brisbane, which is awesome. |

damn talk about unskilled labour nightmares...
one of my first jobs was storeman in a glove manufacturing company at zillmere there was a guy there who for 8 hours a day would cut out leather glove shapes with a press... Step 1 - he would position the leather under the press... Step 2 - he would push both buttons on the top of the machine which would cut out the leather(so he couldnt cut his hand off) Step 3 - Refer Step 1 8 hours a day 30 min lunch break if there was ne1 who had good cause to go postal it was this dude... |

You're lucky we whites produce such fine women, otherwise you would be stuck rooting ugmos with moustaches and black curtains from head to toe.

I worked as a tree lopper for a few days after the big storms wrecked havoc last year. $150 a for a half day's work was some good moolah. I had tree lopping guys at my place today actually..spent a couple of grand getting rid of some big nasty bastard trees. Whilst they did their thing I was chopping down some umbrellas and a weeping willow. The 'chipper' they had was awesome, I ended up with about 4 cubic metres of brilliant mulch. But just the stuff I carried up to the chipper completely had me rooted after a few hours work. Still, I guess I am recovering from two shoulder operations but man those guys worked hard lugging all the limbs etc...the best job is the guy in the harness who gets to climb to the top of the trees and drop all the stuff down. As long as you dont fall that is... :) Labouring is something I admire in people who do it... a decent days work for a decent days pay. I haven't got any problems with that. last edited by Psycho! at 00:40:30 31/Oct/04 |

Heh we were actually called to go to some house on the north side somewhere last year... we went into the guys backyard and all we saw was this massive tree that had fallen and broken through the fence of the neighbours yard straight into the poor bloke's pool. Tree barks, twigs, leaves and all sorts of wood work filled up his pool from top to bottom. The thing is, the main trunk of the tree went sideways straight across the pool and it was really hard to get anything done except chop that muthah in halves. That's when the main man with the hanrness did his magic by pouncing around everywhere chopping s*** up. It was quiet fun but very physical at the same time.

Coming to think of it i rememeber i did take some pics of the massive tree trunk that went timber straight through the fence into the pool. Without any exageration it even ripped up the slab of concrete that was covering its roots. I just can't rememeber with what camera/phone i took it with, it was amazing ! The storms were that powerful it was hard to believe such an old tree would get uprooted so furiously.
