i mostly play CS and diablo 2

Havent had any problems with CS in win2k, dunno bout diablo2.

Apparently win2k sucks if your video card is a bit on the old side since their drivers are a bit lacking in performance. Still, i can't complaing at all with my set up and win2k, all games bar one work (sim theme park doesn't work - crashes out).

Well I have a pretty old TNT2 - got it when they first came out - and it workds great with all typical 3d FPS multiplayer games in won2k. I have heard on good authority that Diablo is fine too. I would go for it - I have found it to be an excellent operating system - MUCH better than Win9X.

You'll need more that 128meg 'O' Ram to stop it disk swapping. Tis sweet with 256.

If you have a voodoo2 don't even bother with win2k coz it doewsn't have any direct x drivers for win2k. But since i gto my geforce 2 i have had no problems at all with any games. I run everything except for transport tycoon :( it doesn't work in win2k. But every other game does that has been made in the past 2 years.

If you want to get win2k you haveto have at least 96 meg of ram coz it idles at about 80 meg of ram. Min ideles at 120 but that is only coz i have icq, winroute and asus probe running.

Also win2k has problems with internal 250 meg zip drives. I have one and it doesn't recognise 100 meg disks in it, i have to install the drive every time i wantto read a 100 meg disk but other than that i have no problems with it. I also have it running 24/7 with out rebooting. Atm it has been runing for 6 days with out a reboot and still is running perfectly.

Yeah mine stays on for weeks no worries too.

Only thing is if you have a sound card based on an Aureal-chip.

Lyco just went back to Win98 cause Covert Ops just refused to work, and he reckons it was the dodgy win2k drivers. I had to get a new card when I got my Athlon, cause it turned out my Vortex1-based card wasn't win2k compatible, despite working fine under win2k on my Celeron. SBLives are fine, though. :)

Everything else in my PC works great - G400 DualHead, Actima 8x DVD (DVD's work great on the TV using DualHead. :), LG 32x4x4 CD-RW (burning in the background is very reliable).

Bout the Vortex1 cards, I've got a DiamondMM MX300, which when they were bought by S3, didnt release any new drivers which is pretty s*** of them anyway.

I cant enable a3d mode, but it still works regardless for me, i can differentiate where its all coming from.

Anyway, getting geforce2 today, to replace my s***ty voodoo2. just in time for qgl.

wiz geforce2 and 128mg RAM Diblo2 runs like s*** on win2k
somethgint to do with mem management but it was so bad that it is unplayable
fuzzy had something on his site a while back bout same problem

sif i play diablo 2. I am more HL myself, but Im needing something good for a spot of quake3.

im multi-booting with 2k/me/redhat

win2k is the one i use most, but sometimes i goto me for games that works better in it (UT). Your definately need more than 128mb ram brassones, ive got 224mb ram myself and all games i have tried run fine. and Cyph, thats a vortex 2 card, vortex1 cards dont even have a3d2

yeah i got 256 meg( and a sound blaster live card

95% of the time i just play CS and blizzard games
so i'm not too worried about the other games

only problem is i just found out win 2k is about $400
upgrade from 98 ver.

Yeha I have an MX300 and it sometimes has issues in 2K - I am running an Athlon also so I am thinking this must be a problem... That is the only time 2K ever crashes - during games and I am sure its cos of the sound card, cos sound is the thing that always crashes first..

what happened to A3d anyway?

did they sell up?

You mean Aureal, not A3D. Yeah they went bacnkrupt for some gay reason and Creative bought them, so hopefully we should see some mega sound cards soon.
