Just curious what speeds you guys are getting on your broadband? I allways notice people getting 200k +
Being on an ADSL 256k plan, is a max of 30k normal? and what kind of speeds do you get on different speed plans/connections (cable, dsl, 256, 512 etc)? Thanks |

I'm on optus cable in the Ipswich. Using ausgamers as a benchmark i sit between 600-800kb/s on my downloads. The highest i have seen was just over 900kb/s (dont know exact, just it was a 9 at the front). This download was a Nvidia Video Drivers from a number of local servers simultaneously.

im with iinet 512 ADSL. i get about 52k/s. but there was a week when i got speeds up to 200k/s :S but that only went on for no more than a week. after that everything went back to normal.
30k/s for 256 is quite good so dont worry ;) |

Find this site useful for checking netspeed in Oz, doesnt really matter what isp you have.

yeah with cable, if not many ppl use it in ur area, u will always reach the maximum speeds for cable, but if many ppl use it in ur area (which is unlikely at the moment) the speed will actually fluctuate making it almost equivalent to ADSL.
meh, im just pissed off, b/c i realised my area supports cable AFTER i signed up with iinet :( and i have to wait at least 6 months to cancel my iinet account otherwise there's like a very unreasonable fee u gotta pay. but iinet is a good company, so i'm not really complaining. just that cable is better :P |

I'm on Iinet's 512/128+ and get on average 51-53kps max download. But I get some kick ass ping times with games like Battlefield of about 25 - 35ms which sometimes gives me the edge that I need :)
My 2 cents.. |

I say it doesnt depend on how many people use it in your area. Well on Ausgamers I go 200Kilo Bits per sec. GameArena: 500-800kilo bits per sec Cnet(SecureDownload): 900-1434Kilo Bits per sec My friend has uncapped dl speed Adsl optus and he goes 9356kilo bits per sec of Cnet(Secure Download) THE BIGGEST FACTOR IS THE SERVER!!!!! |

I'm on iiNet ADSL, 512kbps.
Last weekend I noticed a rather weird thing: My speeds were that of a 1.5Mbit connection. That lasted about 36 hours (Then my PC died and I had to reboot). No idea how it happened, but I wasn't complaining (Had just cleaned up 30GB... filled it already :( ) People post theories here! :D |
