Biohazcentral has part 1 up of a very good first look at this impressive looking flight sim. Not only does it look good but it would seem the developers have got the flight model and the options associated with the entire game so well set up they might just keep everyone happy. Novices and hard core joystick junkies alike. As for performance the author indicates that it ran pretty well on his Athlon 1800 and ATI 9600 maxed at 1024, which tends to indicate the finished product will run very nicely indeed on current higher end vid cards and heftier cpu's.

AVSIM has another similar snapshot up and has some new and awesome looking screens from this game.

A bit of formation over the sea.

Cool weather and environmental stuff.

Lighting, haze, clouds..obviously a lot of work has gone into this.

"You smell something burning?"

A demo of this game is due out within the next week. Keep your eyes peeled and watch your six!

Radeon 9500 Pro's, they are better then the 9600 Pros, but you will be lucky to be able to find a shop that will have a decent version in stock :(

Excruci@ting, I think a 9700 or a pro and higher will do nicely, vearing in mind what these preview guys played with isn't final optomised product.

I havent even checked or I have forgotten if there is MP...a GA Lock On server would be sweet though...

must go check about that MP aspect...

Yep MP is there, silly me.

Multiplayer for up to 32 players via LAN or at least six over the internet, go head-to-head or take part in cooperative missions.

This might be a good candiadate for that Cogslan P2P game doohicky the GA guys are working on, 6 players ect..doing a co-op mission would be very cool.

Well one of the Developers said he had 16 FPS.

on a P4 2.4, 1gb ddr and R9800 Pro.

Demo out this week, w00t!

Edit:

MP is probably gonna fail this game, there will be no dedicated server.

A quick note on frame rates. No, I won’t give any, since this is a PREview and not a REview. But I will say this, I am running an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro with all graphic settings on max right now with 1024x768 resolution (see top of story for test machine specs), and the frame rates are very acceptable in my opinion. If there is a lot of activity going on things can get a little choppy, but overall I was very pleasantly surprised at how well things ran. Considering this is a beta version and not a final optimized RTM copy, things are working damn well!

hmm well thats from the biohazcentral preview..so i dunno who to believe now! Unless this build is more optomised. I guess we'll have to wait for trogs definative review.

Lock on cained when I was about 10 years old, if you had 2 sets you could play 2on2's, especially at night time, that cained!

These are the 'official' system requirements for the game.

What are Lock On's system specs?

Windows(r)98/ME/XP/2000
Pentium III 800/AMD Athlon 600 or better
256 MB RAM (512 MB RAM recommended)
3D video card (DirectX 8.1 compatible) w/32MB RAM (128MB recommended)
Sound Card (Direct 8.1 compatible)
DirectX 8.1 or higher (included on disc)
4X CD-ROM or better (Not recommended for use with CD-RWs)
Internet connection (56 kbps or better) or LAN for multiplayer
Hard Drive Space 1.1 GB

Although we all know how some *cough* system specs listed by developers are questionable at best.

I guess the demo will give interested parties a pretty good idea on how the final will run. Come on trog review!

The demo was supposed to be out this week but Ubi Soft pulled it apparently so as to coincide the release of the demo with the magazine coverage/demo release worldwide.

Ticked me off big time as I was really wanting a demo to see how my vid card handles it.

Also, Remember winter will mean Summer for us, When every company is trying to sell games in the holiday period.

But how certain "Winter" is I dont know. I see an Ad for lomac, when Installing Ravenshield saying late 2002 :(

I dunno much about the game.
But if you remember Strike Commander from meny eons ago, that'd make an awesome remake/spin off.

Maybe a few changes, manage the merc. squadron but also buy the planes you're going to fly.
It'd be nice to be able to buy your favourite fighter jet, arm her up and go do your job, rather than having the jet you have to fly thrown at you :/
