I was wondering if anyone knew of any sites [ASUS or otherwise] that had a decent run-down of the features of BIOS revision 1005 Beta 010 [or any version of 1005]. There are a couple of new options in there that I'm not entirely sure of and I'd like to know what they do. I'm guessing that decent information probably won't be found on the ASUS site itself considering how informative the description information for the actual BIOS download was :P
The manual that came with my motherboard isn't much help either since there are descrepancies between the version used in the manual and the actual version on the motherboard [as stock]. In case people can tell me, the two options I'm actually wondering about are "SDRAM One Page Control" and "Performance Setting" [both have Enabled/Disabled options]. I couldn't find the first one in the BIOS guide on Adrians Rojak Pot either :/ My board is an ASUS P4S8X [turns out to be one of the biggest piles of crap from ASUS ever]. |

Having had a couple of Asus boards P4T-e and currently the P4T533-C, I can only offer the following.
In the Bios 1005 for the P4t-E the bios allowed for some timing refinements and the allowing of higher psecs CPU's to be placed in the board. As both boards I have used have utilised RDRAM I can only guess that the 'performance setting' you see in the bios for your board is the same as the Rdram 'Turbo' mode available in both the boards I have had. Enable it and see if your system i stable..from memory enabling the Turbo mode on my ol P4t-e made a non- Northwood 2ghz Cpu perform near to an equal Northwood cpu specs...I think the boost has been measured as near to 8-10%. Cant help other than this.. also the Asus mainpage does have fairly good 'info' links on the features each bios has contained. |

i got the P4T-E too. good board. it can even take up to 2.8ghz p4s (unofficially).
anyways, yeah, performance mode = faster ram timings. switch it on, and things should have a bit of a boost. just don't turn it on if your ram is at the bleeding edge of an overclock |
