I know some of you do courses at qantm, or at least have, and I was wondering what course you did, what did you think of it, was it worth it and did it get you a job.

Im going to do a couple of short courses in web development to start with but I really dont know which direction I want to go at this stage.

so speak up! :D

i did some webdev courses there about 1.5 years ago. html/advanced html/dreamweaver/photoshop/flash

the teacher dude was cool and knew his s***, but the computers were s***FUL. especially when you are trying to use these memory hungry dev programs. f***ing 14" monitors and trying to do s*** in dreamweaver was pointless.

dunno if its all changed since then.

still, its good if you want a grounding in these programs, and to have some pretty certificates for your resume that says you know how to use the progs (which is what I mainly did it for).

they've upgraded since then, strex.

i did the games development course, two years ago or thereabouts.. the computers were ok, can't remember specs but they got the job done. actually no, there were one or two rooms with good computers, the rest sucked. the instructors were mostly f***ed out the door, and the class i was in was classified as the "worst class ever". of course, what they failed to realise was that they had provided the "worst classes ever".

in conclusion, while i'm not sure about now, they had some shocking instructors when i was there. i mean, more than once.

i also did half a cert2 in multimedia the year before the games course, and one or two instructors were good. that was it.

their organisation was shocking too. i didn't realise it was possible to have less organisational skills than me, but they proved me wrong.

again, it may have changed now. i know a lot of things have changed, so maybe they've fixed everything now.

yeah the instructors have changed i think. They spend more time with the students and stuff. IF you don't understand something they will go back and explain and great depth how to do it.

I didn't pay to do my course i got a scholorship

I did a diploma of e-commerce (Joint SB tafe and Qantm). It was abit unorganized because the course was semi in development. We had some really good teachers and lecturers and others were absolute dicks.

All in all i found the qantm subjects heaps more interesting than the tafe ones.

I reccon they'd be more setup and organised by now, id go back there n study.

I'm doing Certificate III in multimedia through their Cyberschools program. I'm impressed with the tasks they set you, and they outline the steps well. Although I've never been to their campus, I beleive their courses are good.

I did the Diploma of Software Development specializing in games last year. I LEARNT a lot, but if you expect to walk straight out of the course into a games dev job, think again. You've got to be obsessed, and stay obsessed to make it in the games dev industry.

There were some significant changes made to the course before i came, and over this christmas break, they changed it even more. Its now a 2 year degree with new staff and a new course outline. As i said, you can learn a lot while your there (if you put the time in) but it wont land you a job without a lot of hard work (as i am now doing).

i went there 2 years ago (game dev). it was s***. they were so unorganised. i'm just glad that i didn't stay for the whole year, i bailed before i wasted my $6000. but talking to people who DID finish it, it was a waste of time, they don't teach you what you need to know, basically, the place went to s***. whether or not they've picked up their act or not, the damage to their reputation has been done.

i know some people who refused to pay half their fees and were considering legal action.

yeah i'm currently doing a multimedia cert III course at school. its pretty good although some things aren't explained such as steps to do in PS and Flash so sometimes you'll have to make your own way around things. but other than that its pretty good. we're learning about PS, Flash and Web design.

I noticed Qantm have totally redone their website now, and in their section talking about the games courses they mention Micro Forte. Are they sponsored by them now like the AIE in canberra?

Had a look at that proposed 2 year bachelor of game development they're putting together, looks promising...
