EA are beginning to make global releases so, it'd either be very close to the US release or on the same day itself (even earlier as it happened with bf1942)

yeah it came out in the US on the 22nd, but gamesmarket.com.au have an import of it, only problem is it costs $110 + postage & handeling.

hey buddy try
www.dragon.ca I checked gamesmarket and it is going to take 4 weeks to ship in! Dragon.ca should be able to send it from Canada for under $100 easily!

http://www.dragon.ca/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=EARTBEY

is the link to E&B on their site

I've been thinking about getting this game also, but I'm wondering where the servers are located and about lag. Theres no point getting it if you have to play on a server in the 'states, is there? Is there an australian server?

Game looks really good, a space theme'd RPG if I read the reviews correctly!

On that note, anyone know about asheron's call 2, if theres going to be a local server? Also looks like a gg!

Icepick do not worry about the location of these servers as everything is done server side and there is little difference to playing some of these MMO games next to the server or right here in Aus.

AC2 has some amazing graphics but I am not that excited about the full version and another thing that MS did right after everyone around the world had pre-orders and had paid for them they let it be known that unless your credit card is from one of nine countries you will be unable to play until they add your country. That left lots of players out in the cold including our Country.
The first day during US prime time there were left than 5000 hopefully that changes!

Thanks Gargantua how did the price difference check out? That dragon store is always nice and cheeep!

can someone explain to me why lag is not an issue in mmorpgs?

i would have thought.. esp. in space battles that your shooting at something in real time.. so there would have to be some lag?

Unlike other FPS, generally there aren't as many processes to be managed (ie Hitboxes), if they are they're designed to run online and not LAN. Furthermore, the designers use most of their resources in developing this game and then afterwards spend 3/4 of their resources in running and maintaining the servers.
An excellent example is Neocron, the servers they run them off are in some High Secuirty complex using some mega computer(s) to run their servers. http://www.reakktor.com/Company/company.html 2/3s down the page, there are some pics of the servers.

I recomend you get it here http://www.dragon.ca its an american distributer but cheaper than the other Aussie sites where they import it, they charge $116 for game and shipping and at dragon its $77AUD for game, shipping and customs duty but might take a little longer.

No worries Gargantua!

MMORPGs don't lag because unlike playing Counter Strike or BF or any other game online these MMORPGs use server farms not just one computer but hundreds of them and there might be seven different servers you can choose to join and play yet these seven servers are run by 500 odd computers each running different parts of the world! Amazing but the money generated from these games is also phenomanal (cant speel). The other thing is the MMORPG you are playing is usually quite simple imagine a world map with hundreds of dots on it. Those Dots are monsters, trees, houses, NPCS and more! All the server tells your computer is where they are and your computer puts that dot in the spot and then you see the tree etc.

Did that make any sense?? Hope it did!

Well I suppose considering that a typical hop to the states is about 300-400 ms, for a non fps type game that should be ok i suppose, as long as its stable.

How about someone get it and try it out and see if its actually playable. ;)

This might be my next game, in a bit of a rut right now, getting a bit bored with fps's, even bf1942 is a bit boring.

yeah, i must admit.. that bf1942 icon hasn't been double clicked on for a week or so..

Nothing has captured me for a long time.

I downloaded the Ship and Character customiser for Earth & Beyond and that was pretty cool.

Worth a look.

I would say no online game can hold a bar to the fun you can have in the MMORPG types of games. Especially meeting up with peeps from all over the world then spending the next few hours working together.

Its always fun getting a group of people and going off in the game to some cool dungeon and working your way through it. Really is exilhirating and can really take you away from the real world!
Just imagine lining up with hundreds of people ready to siege a castle you have the catapaults firing the archers are our sniping it can be quite fun sometimes!

i was really look forward to e&b.
when i became a beta tester i thought it was great. then i played the game, and i found it some wat boring. to make this game fun, u have to have some friends playing with u, and u have to hit a decent lvl :-/
maybe im wrong, maybe you like wat this game offers.

Well, i guess there isnt any PvP which has pissed people off. But that doesn't bother me.

i really wana try a mmorpg.

the demo for neocron annoyed me.. theres too much junk on the screen and the colours hurt my eyes.

pvp was always gonna b in the game, it just never made the release date, so they said they'd just patch it in later, there would b certain areas of space that would b specifically for pvp and so on
