id Software is turning 30 today, marking 30 years of the veteran studio that brought us Doom, Quake, Commander Keen, Rage, and Wolfenstein 3D. The very first id game I played funnily enough was the studio's first title - Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons in all of its 16-colour EGA glory. A distinct memory I have from playing it was, "Okay, PC can have Mario-style games too". After that, and growing up on a steady diet of Nintendo consoles, it wasn't until the release of Doom II in the mid-90s that I got to see intense and incredible action powered by some truly impressive tech. Classic id. id has always been at the forefront of both, great games backed by great tech. The engines behind Quake, Quake II, and Quake 3 powered a large range of PC gaming for many years. And this is something that brings us all the way to last year's DOOM Eternal -- which rightfully earned a spot in our Top 10 Games of 2020 countdown. A brilliant game bolstered by brilliant id tech. id Tech 7 to be exact. And to celebrate 30-years of id Software the studio posted the following message to fans. Today, id Software celebrates 30 years of making games. A lot has changed in three decades, but what hasn't changed is our deep passion for bringing together the brightest and most creative people in our industry to create fun, memorable and engaging first-person shooters. We are driven by our vision for what's ahead, but grateful for all that has come before. With the studio a long way from finishing its journey, it's great to take stock and celebrate the veteran studio. What was your first id experience, your favourite, let us know. |

AusGamers and QGL probably wouldn't have existed in the ways they did without id Software games |

I still can't help but say i dee software even after all these years. Playing Doom as a nine year old back in 1993 was a life changing experience. Doom Eternal was one of the best games from last year. id software have still got it. |
